FileExplorer Background

I've looked at many WindowBlinds skins, and some have a white background of the FileExplorer. I need to find a way to change the color, and/or the texture, of the FileExplorer background, but the current WindowBlinds program won't let me. Is there any way to change the FileExplorer background for this program?

Using those two images RND has shown, on the bottom one click on Change System Colors and then scroll down to System Colour: Window, that is the color you need to change for explorer background.

Be advised though, the background color in some other programs may change also.

Thanks, LightStar. Also, do I need to change a solid color? I was thinking adding a texture to that background as well.

Not sure on that one as I never use textures.

I have tried that so many times and it never works.  I have gotten the windows explorer to change color by...Modify Style/Backgrounds.  But those backgrounds are so UGLY.  I have tried that method by attempting a solid color but, that never works.  I have created what I thought was the most solid color texture and making it as dark as I could...by making my own .tga file.  But when applied it goes from a deep, dark brown to a very very light brown with a texture.

I stay away from Microsoft Windows "Personalize" section when trying to change Windows Explorer backgrounds because that section has at times royally messed up my PC's display completely.  Almost every time requiring the use of System Restore or searching the web for a way to get by PC back to the way it was.

I have tried Skin Studio but no joy.  Ever since I upgraded from v5 I cannot change anything because I cannot figure it out.  I use to be able to make any changes to any skin I wanted for personal use.  Color changes, fonts, spacing, etc.  But when a new version would come out I would upgrade.  Upgrade to the point that it is so complicated to use I cannot use it.

And I use other skinning software. I adjust or modify BSPlayer skins.  VLC player skins.  And the DSP Addon DFX I have made matching skins for it from almost all of my Winamp skins. (I don't post them anywhere because the DFX skins are based on Winamp skins made by other people and I do not have their permission.  It's a lot of skins.

So I have never been able to change Windows Explorer background colors.  The bright white and other light colors are horrible.  No one makes free Window Blinds skins with the file explorer skinned other than white.  Well, almost no one, to be fair.  Master Skins that one pays for has darker file explorer skins.

I would love to know how to change Windows Explorer background.

So I have never been able to change Windows Explorer background colors.

Simple. Just open the WB in SKS. Go to Backgrounds/Edit Explorer background bitmaps. Select the Active window. Now click "Edit Image" It will open in your image program. Make it the color you want and save it as a .bmp. Now just load it into SKS, click apply and done. Sometimes you may have to close file explorer and open it again.

Actually there aren't a lot of skinners anymore. However myself and Lightstar still upload several free skins. also Don has returned to uploading and his skins are free. I do know all of my skins and Lightstars are colored skins unless we need it White for the skin. Still very easy to change in SKS as mentioned above.

If you are using win10 and guess you are saying File Explorer. Find "Old New Explorer" and the entire file explorer will be skinned. You still need WB.

Wow.

Thanks DaveBax for the quick and informative reply.  As far as using the term "file explorer" I thought I was just interchanging terms for the meaning of Windows Explorer.  As of now I am running Windows 7 PRO since Windows 10 will not display on my 40" Samsung.  (I am having issues with the shop that put my so-called "custom" PC together right now.  Hope to have all resolved soon.)

I feel bad about what I wrote about WB skinners.  I have "free" WB's I love as well as Master Skins I purchased.  All the authors work very hard, I think, on their works of art.  As with just about everything, you can't please everyone.  I guess I was fatigued when I started to complain about white Windows Explorer Backgrounds.

Once again, thank you for your help and expert advice.  And my apologies to all the "skinners" who I said didn't color the backgrounds of Windows Explorer.

No worries. Not a big deal at all. ------- However there may be times we write or say something we really regret. When saying something this works but one needs to hear what they are going to say first and then think about any problems it may cause. Most people will get their self in trouble when they write things. Done on Facebook. here and all those other places. So we have to decide if it may cause us a problem later for us. By that I'm saying is it even worth saying. Write it but don't post. Take a couple minutes and read it again. Put yourself on the other end of receiving it. Decide if you would like what was said. If you don't have any problem then send away. If you have an exception re-write or just delete it and forget about it.

As far as my info on the Background changing that is also how it's done on Win7. You have anything else you wish to change give me a shout.
