I'm still having problems getting this mod to run. I've tried to run the mod on two PC's, both of which are Windows 7 64 bit rigs with 16 gig of ram. One has an AMD R9 390x and an i7 4790 CPU, the other a 290 and an i5-3570. The 390x will not run the mod at all, although if I turn mods off it runs fine. The 290 will not run the mod 3 times out of 4, but it did run a tiny game with the Borg. Federation and Klingons. You've done a great job with the mod and when it actually loads it has had no problems through 100+ turns.

Are you all using Nvidia cards or is anyone else running R9 200/300 systems? If you're running AMD cards, what version Catalyst are you using?

PS: The minor race Karemmans (sp?) don't have a profile image.

Keep up the good work!

Are you using the latest Version of the game(1.8) and Mod? You also need the Merc Expansion & Percursor DLC.

Installed it to :- C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods (That is a copy'd address from Win 7 Machine)?

There should be 10 folders in all.

I use NVidia GT710 and a Core Duo Quad.

How embarrassing! I didn't have the two DLC's!!! I guess it would only work occasionally on Tiny because it randomly did not use any of those DLC's features. I bought them and will play tonight. Thanks for your patience in helping me out.

Mike, you are correct I do have an NVidia card, swapped out a R9 290x for it since I was having issues with the AMD card. Mostly heat. late night ;-), I edited my post.

My PC specs is as follows:

Nvidia GTX 980TI

Intel core i7 3930K

Asus sabertooth X79 MB

32 meg RAM

Game loaded on Samsung 850 EVO

No major issues with the game since the last hotfix for 1.8, I did have one CTD in my current game but it has not reoccurred. Not sure what that was about.

Horemvore,

1.81 is out, was not able to stop the auto update which really pisses me off ! Will try re loading the 0.3e update to see if I can still access my saved game. The inability to shut down auto updates is a really bad idea for the mod community.

EDIT:

It is broken, here is the message:

C:/Users/wotan/Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Mods/Star Trek - Star Names/Text/StarNamesText.xml(0,0): error:
String collision! String 'DrathOverlord_Dec' and 'Karnaugh' produce the same hash. One of these strings must be changed to avoid collision.

Horemvore,

1.81 is out, what impact on the mod? Any idea? Any way to stop the game from updating until I finish my current game?

Edit, found the only way, limit downloads to times when PC is shut off until I can finish the game. Would be nice to have a setting to shut off auto updates on a game by game basis.

Been at work since 7.30am this morning(its 18.42 now). I will make the mod 1.81 compatible tonight, my day off tomorrow so no biggie.

Thank you for the work.

Saved games are toast. Darn shame, I was enjoying this last game, Borg were beating my ass pretty bad :-)

Would be nice if steam gave us an option to turn off auto updates or if Stardock gave us 24 hour warning so we could change our download settings.

Why are they toast?

This might fix it? 1.81 Hotfix

I did not see anything in the xml changes that would break save games. Most of this update was done internally or with the UI which is cross save compatible.

Assumption since I could not start them, let me try again

Will not launch, still getting the same error message. never happened before:

C:/Users/wotan/Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Mods/Star Trek - Star Names/Text/StarNamesText.xml(0,0): error:
String collision! String 'DrathOverlord_Dec' and 'Karnaugh' produce the same hash. One of these strings must be changed to avoid collision.

New games start okay?

I had to change the string that gave the planet name "Karnaugh" to "Kranaugh" to avoid the collision. Game started fine after that but loading the save gives me the error that "Save game is not compatible with this version"

Yeah I commented it out to get it to boot.

"Save game is not compatible with this version"

That sucks.

Odd, my save game worked fine...

Oh well, good excuse for not losing another to the Borg :-)

Quick question, how did you give the Borg more attributes than they can receive? I tried making a slightly overpowered custom race to compete with them based on the Terrans from the "mirror, mirror" universe (the one where Spock has a beard) but when I try to modify the faction file using Notepad+ I get the same as if i am trying to modify an executable.

I use Modbuddy to mod (Civ 5 mod tools). You can add as many attributes as you like via xml to get around the cap. And they shouldnt have extras, I fixed that when I gave them hidden bonuses via their tech tree. i will look at that though, might have miss counted.

Ok, Horemvore, I have deleted my games and updated. Will you release a combined new GST? I am going to delete all my custom ships except a few.

Was not planning to. So little changed does not seem worth it tbh. I will wait until I have finished the resource components/improvements for the next full release. I hot fixed it to stop an error due to new GalCiv3GlobalDefs Schema and a duplicate hash string(Star Trek - Star Names).

Weird, tried twice with no luck, kept telling me this version is not compatible so I deleted it.

I deleted the entire game folder as well as everything in "My Documents", fresh install plus your patch and still no joy.

Now turn 24 in a new game playing a custom race "Terran Empire" using the Dominion tech tree to see how that goes. Stayed within the confines of the attributes points finally giving max bonuses for manufacturing, research, toughness and economy while going full negative on trade, popularity and likability. also gave warriors and engineers. Will see if that helps against the Borg.

Using federation ships with inverse colors, they look pretty cool.

I am getting this error from a new install..

Larsenex:

Go into the xml file stipulated and change the string "Karnaugh" to "Kranaugh", that will do the trick.

The star names are in alphabetical order so its easy to navigate.

There is an updated Star Trek - Star Names mod on the OP.

Well ... Playing a custom race with popularity and likability at -30% to offset some other bonuses to try to make a race that can go toe to toe with the BORG was not a good idea. Added to the diplomacy changes all factions declared war on me almost immediately after encountering me so i ended up getting wiped out by a war on four fronts with the BORG, Tholians, Dominion and Klingons. The BORG are SERIOUSLY overpowered coming at me with ships that were pretty much indestructible by turn 145 for example having cubes with 300 missile, 120 shield, 120 point defense and 104 armor against which my best battlecruisers had a max of 96 beam and 28 on all defences. The Dominion are no slouch either. BORG planets are also incredibly hard to invade and if they happen to have the right counter to your invasion tech you can pretty much throw in the towel.

Horemvore, would it be possible to make the benevolent and pragmatic races more inclined to ally once the BORG get too strong ? Not sure how or if that can be done but it would give at least a chance of survival on higher difficulties. As it stands now i think the only way to ensure other races DOW the BORG is to lose the home planet while having the appropriate pragmatic ideology trait. That's a big sacrifice to make.

Could a benevolent choice down the tree be created that gets all benevolent/pragmatic races to ally together against cybernetic races? Maybe a building like the "Federation Council" that gives the owner presidency of the united planets with a new diplomatic option to form an alliance against the BORG, to get really complicated the evil races could have the option to abstain but not veto.

While I am at it and making wishes :-) Having the ability to control alliance ships would be an awesome addition too.

Might be an idea for a scenario ....

What difficulty are you playing?

The Borg will take weapon/defense Techs over anything else. It is how I set their weights up in the tech tree. So you can pretty much take it for granted they have top of the line ships, I reduced the upgrade time for the AI too, this might have be making them too OP. But Borg and Dominion should be the toughest. Who want to take over a planet of Borg? :) . I can however look at changing the default resistance.

Did you notice if the AI was attacking more than once with a fleet? This change in 1.81 could also of made my changes even more OP.

I am so sorry but your post brought a huge smile to my face, I lose 3 out of 4 games on gifted. When I first made the Borg they were such push overs it made me cry :)

This is something I want or at least a similar mechanic for both the Borg and Dominion. I just, have not looked into the code yet to see if it is possible. I normally see the Borg at war with at least 2 factions in my games, not including myself. I can maybe add a Hate line for the rest of the factions to hate the Borg.

Quoting Wotan2a, reply 122

We can not do Scenarios/Campaigns yet as modders :(

However, a Mega Event could be possible or even just a Standard event. I will look at the code an see what I can come up with.

BTW this is the Federation faction I use. FEDFaction.

Yes, BORG fleet destroyed two of my fleets in one run. That took me by surprise, much more aggressive.

No need to be sorry LOL that the fun of it.

Quoting: I can maybe add a Hate line for the rest of the factions to hate the Borg.

That might be a good compromise since they hate everyone. having a race like them and be hated in return would be possible if a bit out of context.

Quoting: However, a Mega Event could be possible

That would do the trick. Trigger would be the first BORG attack? On the Dominion side an alliance between Cardassians and Dominion is what you are thinking about?

Quote: BTW this is the Federation faction I use. FEDFaction.

Will try them.
