Why to upgrade from WB8 to WB10?

Some questions:
  1. Is there a detailed changelog somewhere?
  2. What exactly are the advantages of upgrading from WB8 to WB10?
  3. What are the new in-built themes shipped with WB10 which are not in WB8? List and screenshots?
  4. Why are you making WB8 paid users to pay again for a new version?

NOTE: I am on Windows 7, so don't really care about Windows 8/8.1/10 support.

The advantage is that if any issues develop in WB7 or 8.13, whichever you are using, those issues will not be fixed. Only WB10 will receive fixes from now on out.

Are there no "new" features? Is it just about continued support?

 

Well, absolutely no reason for me to upgrade then because I have zero issues with WindowBlinds 8.12 (never got the 8.13 update, go figure)

Windowblinds has to support all MS OSs. Its updates affect all the the OSs.

Updates have to be made because of changes in the various OSs. If you believe you don't need updates, don't be surprised if it starts acting hinky, because MS won't stop changing/patching its OSs.

Answering your questions in the OP: 1) No. Yes (to keep up with patches etc. (also in case you update to W10). 2) So tour WB will work with W10. 3) I don't have a list of them but there are several (daniloOc) and screenshots? Screenshots? Really? 4) When there are major changes in WB (going from 8.12 to 8.13 isn't a major change, but 8.13 to 10 is).

Thanks for the response. What's wrong with asking for "screenshots" of new included themes in WB10, if I have to cough up money for it? I should blindly assume that the new themes (one of the advertised 'features' of WB10) will be good? Really? REALLY?

The themes included with WB 8 and WB7 never had screenshots, and that didn't prevent you from purchasing a subscription. You obviously made the assumption once.

I actually don't think that is unreasonable. The new themes may be one's main reason to purchase/upgrade. Not really any different that wanting a preview of a master skin you may want to purchase. Just my 2 cents.

 

Personally, I wouldn't care about screenshots because I would want the WB app anyway.

Al, those aren't shots of the new skins. They're shots of the config window mostly. It does show Ice being used, which is one of the new skins.

Not sure I'd call that a demand, don't know if SD would do it, probably not. Still not an unreasonable request.  If the first person to think of something were to keep quiet about it, we would have missed a lot of progress throughout history.

I like to see what I'm buying before spending my money.

Not my job.

It shows one. :P Did anybody notice that the second screenshot (the Luna skin) doesn't have min, max and close buttons.

Yeah you did...you thought it was a good idea...for someone else to do...SD or me. So instead of making a "suggestion" and walking away to leave for someone else, I suggested you do it.

  4. Major version changes are always a paid upgrade. Discounts are available for people who already own a version of WB. Free trial is available for WindowBlinds 10.

Just so everyone knows, I just upgraded to SKS10 and WB10 on Windows 7 (did a complete uninstall of both prior versions and ran a registry cleaner, rebooted, etc.), with absolutely no issues. I triple boot, so will be doing the same to Windows 8.1 soon. Keeping up with the latest versions of software should not even be questioned.  :)
