suggestion: improve/simplify the auto-update mechanism for Start8 & Start10

Over the last few years, I've installed Start8/Start10 on almost all of my clients' machines (200+). On subsequent service calls, they are almost always still running the same (outdated) version that I installed for them. When I mention this, their response is usually something like "Oh yeah, I kept getting a message about updating, but I couldn't figure out how to do it". Sadly, the process of downloading the installer from a Web page, locating their Downloads folder, and double-clicking the installer is way beyond the capability of the average computer user ("What's my Downloads folder?").

In my opinion, the update mechanism itself should simply download the updated installer from the Stardock servers (to a temp folder or something), and then give the user the choice to update the software. This is the way most modern commercial software programs handle their updates.

Agree? Disagree?

The update process changed long ago and the software will prompt and then download the file automatically and run the installer.

All versions of Start10 have worked like this and later Start8 versions too.  The exception is the manual check for updates button which will take them to a website.

My bad. I stand corrected. Then what I'm seeing are just the "stragglers" who were still running really old versions of Start8 (prior to the improvements in the update mechanism). Thanks.
