Any hints about the third race?

I'm well aware of advent of the third race is long-term roadmap. However at the very least could you give some hints or allusions of planned third race? Such as their signature playstyle, their unique traits, their focused theme, etc. I especially want to know whether the third race will be rendered as a sub-faction of the Posthumanity(likewise SotSE Rebel factions and such) or completely different hyper-advanced non-human alien species.

And, have developers any plan of eventual addition of the fourth race? I'm desperately curious to know, so please answer.

On a Steam post a Dev seemed to say the 3rd faction could be more different than the current two as the current two come from the same tech tree being both from Earth, while the 3rd won't have those restrictions. That strongly suggests it will be an alien force and not a sub-faction.

I am also very curious about them. I personally hope it is still a high-tech race and not a Zerg type bio-race. I'd prefer something along the lines of the Cybran, with lots of sharp angles on the units. Hopefully a bit more menacing than the existing factions too.

Thank you very much for kind, detailed answer. I greatly appreciate your help. Very intriguing information indeed. Just same as you, I strongly detest, and also quite skeptical, against Zerg- or Tyranid- type bio-race. This game is about Singularity Clarke-tech and physical gods residing in metaverse after all. In addition, I think bio- and ultratech- concept is not intrinsically incompatible, as eminent Grey Goo's Shroud/Silent Ones faction have attested. I personally consider hyper-advanced half-organic, half-machine faction having fancy gorgeous aesthetic would be just as interesting as angular, menacing, cybernetic Cybran-esque, purely mechanical alien faction having minimalistic, utilitarian aesthetic.

Yes, I hadn't thought of bio and tech combined, that could work too.

I would love to see Zerg type race.. They should be very different from the existing factions in many ways.  I always played Zerg in starcraft 2.

Nah, Protoss FTW :)

The PHC and the Substrate are both from Earth.  The third race does not come from Earth.

So they are NOT unwholesome hybrid bio-race rip off, yes? Please confirm they are hyper-advanced ultra-tech genuine "alien alien" instead of unholy Zerg-expy or hackneyed rubber forehead humanoid Star Wars/Star Trek expy.

In that regard, Supreme Commander's Seraphium was simply sweet. Their general concept was a splendid choice of a alien race so rare in vidio games.

Well, at least until frankenstein abomination called as Supcom 2 made them rather *conveniently* extinct.

Genuine "alien alien". Is there even such a thing?

Seraphim were my least favourite part of Supreme Commander Forged Alliance, they felt like a reskinned Aeon which the developers gave up on half way due to lack of funds or to meet a deadline.

An alien singularity perhaps?

Would be an aptly named expansion: AOTS: Clash of the Singularities :D

1. "alien alien" is actually existing term, not misspelling.

2. It is sorry you are not fond of Seraphim. I have thought they are sufficiently original, attractive and beautiful.  I have also felt their asymmetrical design being beautiful and wishing to be applied on our third race. Though I somehow suspect their general look, feel and aesthetics would be closer to the Cybran than Seraphim.

Exactly. That is my idea/feeling about them. That would be awesome! :D

Anyway, I hope the third race to be more distinct and ingenious than difference between previous two races and having unique, idiosyncratic tech/orbital/upgrade/playing style.

Visually they were very distinctive, and I did like the asymmetrical designs.

The aliens come from a post-singularity society, having already gone aeons ago through the same cycle the Post-humans & Substrate currently are.

Nice to see another Freespace fan!

As for aliens coming from post-singularity in long time, what would have prevented them from eradicating other societies pre-singularity/killling off sub-strate?

Huh. I thought the Substrate was from another planet given their difference to PHC in regards to units. Interesting to know.

A hopelessly idealistic belief in free will? The statistical improbability of the number of turinium-convertible planets in the Milky Way? An intelligence report from 65 Million BC mistakenly claiming the planet was rendered uninhabitable? Who knows :P

If you haven't read these yet, I recommend giving the dev diaries a read.
