The 16/24 Military Starbase Arrays (MSBA)

Here is some basic info on 2 forms of Military Starbase Arrays which can be used in order to maximize your Military Score for MV games.

Because there is a 'only 4 starbases per sector'-limitation in place a 24 MSBA has to look like this:

Actually, this is only true for the outer 16 starbases which have to be placed in the exact fields because these are the only places which then allow the Zone-Of-Effect of all bases to conjoin at exactly 2 sweet spots. The other 8 SBs near the middle can be placed more liberal.

24 MSBA sweet spot

The 2 parsecs in the middle where the Tiny Fighter & my SurveyShip are parked are the 2 sole spots which are affected by all 24 starbase ship-enhancing mods.

For the single purpose of enhancing military ship stats, an upgraded starbase looks like this:

SB modules

You'll need 28 constructors to build one = 672 for a full 24 MSBA.

One constructor is required for the first Battle Stations-module which is a prereq of a few ship-enhancing mods.

A single MSB gives +54 attack & +9 defense rating to any ship - if the ship does have, at least, a single weapon AND defense module on its hull.

For a 24 MSBA, the total attack & defense value a single ship receives is 1512. Note that this isn't increased by your racial weapons-/ defense-stats.

A 16 MSBA can look like this:

16 MSBA

Needs 448 constructors, enhancing shipstats to +1008.

You can also attach speed-boosting module to these bases to be able to slingshot your fleets throughout the galaxy, or slowing-down module to keep the AI fleets at 1 speed.

Errecting starbases will cost you some cash, the amount is based on your total count of already established starbases but mitigated by your logistics ability. You CANNOT construct a starbase while being in debt or without sufficient funds.

Also, unless you are evil-aligned, the ship-boosting starbasemods will also cost you a considerable amount of money.

This list (which should be complete for Dread Lords & Dark Avatar) gives you some info on the technological requirements of all the MSB ship-enhancing modules.

requirements

These values are true for DL 1.53, DA 2.01. I'll post an update with extended information for TotA as well at some time.

The first pic is all white.

The first pic is weird.  Sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn't.  I can't edit - or reliably view it - in MS Picture Manager.  Consider replacing?

The others are pretty dark, but I can make them out.

BTW, don't the SBs reinforce each other?  Almost obviates the need for ships as any attacker would go poof just on the SBs...

I think I finally got a good copy of the first pic.

I don't understand the point of the spread-out array.  Wouldn't any structure in which the zones of influence overlap be as effective?

I hope you're not trying to troll me here^^ after your post in the other thread I've taken these into a dozen different applications - but they all show, without any errors. I wonder what the problem here is? What kind of a system so you have over there?^^

Not happening. Only ships are affected by their boosts.

Well you think you can design a different 24 MSBA? I don't think that's possible... But you may try :)

I'm on the latest Firefox.  The first two "cannot be displayed becuase it has an error' messages came from the forum, not from the browser.  The flaky first picture here appears to have been corrupt downloads.  I tried saving again, and the third time I got a usable pic.  If your images are okay, the point the finger at the forum s/w. Crap.  It's gone white again.

WAIT A MINUTE!  This is weird.  I reloaded and now the "white first pic" is gone and I see only four.  WTF?  My "successful save must have been what I thought was the second pic.  Grrr.

As to the SB array size, there are roughly 50 discrete locations withing the Zone of Effect of an SB.  Radius 8 (conservatively) * 2 * pi.  BUT I forgot about the 4 SB per sector limit.  Haven't run into it in years.  Nifty solution.

The problem lies within Firefox - which seems to be unable to recognize/display .jpg that has been saved with "chroma subsampling YCbCr 4x4 2x2 2x2" (which I used to reduce filesize...)

I've made a report/complaint at their forums and wait for a response. Actually any other applications I have (except VLC Player) can display these picture properly; even completely outdated or discontinued things like WinAmp or rubbish like Paint....

Doesn't matter though, any other subsampling will be displayed, so I just rehost these pics.

ok pics are updated -currently using Firefox 43.0.1- I can see them all properly. if there are any problems anymore for example withother browser just let me know

Well, it wouldn't be the first "shortcoming" that I've experienced with FF.  E.g. it has some backward compatibility issues with its own database.

Do you plan to post these guides as integrated documents with the pics embedded?  E.g. Word format (A terrible format, but ubiquitous.)  As it is I have to save the text, then download the individual pics and deduce where they go from the filenames.

(If I had a choice between more guides and a different format I'd choose the guides.  This stuff is fascinating.)

yes maybe a full collection as a .pdf but only once I'm finished. otherwise I have to do all changes two-fold. and I'm still having a dozen different strategies at my files which I want to release, for example

- Spore ZYW step by step

- NB strat

- MCC farming

- more details on MV score (I'll break that section away from the SD-ZYW and enhance it)

- prolonged SD-ZYWs into y1 which nets up to 300k per game

- prolonged Spore ZYW against max AIs (for TOTA)

- Advanced Race Customization

- safe ARC packs for all strategies

- complete million-pointer-strats for (at least) DL & DA

and some other stuff....

and the more I have online, the more I have the ability to interlink between these sites which is immensely helpfull (eg. I don't have ot explain in every guide how ARC works, I just link to that site...)

and to release this as a book makes ofc only sense when the amount of information/interlinking is a complete cycle.

BTW I went over all pics using FF and they're all displayed... for me... IE, Opera, FF should work... but I have no intention to install even more browser as each of them is a potential security leak in itself... just post if something doesn't work, then I'll look into it :jafo:
