Connect To

I just upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10, and from Start8 to Start10.  In Start8, I had a menu item "Connect To" which listed MS VPNs and available WiFi networks.  That feature doesn't seem to be present in Start10.  What is the replacement?

That option is no longer available as Microsoft removed the OS capability for that in one of the late Windows 10 betas.

You can access VPNs and Wifi networks by swiping right from the desktop to open the action centre and then accessing VPN and wifi from the bottom of that pane, or clicking on the notifications icon on the taskbar and again accessing the buttons on that pane.

As Neil said, this is an OS issue, not a Start10 issue. In Windows 10, Microsoft completely changed the UI for connecting to your available networks. This has upset some users, especially those who need to connect to one or more VPN's (like yourself).

Luckily, as with most Windows annoyances, there is a workaround if you don't mind a little extra work:

First, download and run Winaero Tweaker. Go to Network Flyout and choose "Open a Windows 8-like Network pane". This will force Windows 10 to use the older Windows 8-style flyout instead of the crappy new one. Now when you click on your system tray Network icon, it will once again show you all of your network connections in one place, including your VPN's, just like in windows 8.

The next step is optional: if you're really missing that "Connect To" shortcut in your Start10 menu, here's one that I created. Unzip the shortcut and then just pin it to your Start10 menu (or your taskbar, or whatever) just like you would any other shortcut.

I hope that other users will find this helpful. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
