FOUNDERS: Mercenaries BETA

Ok everyone.

If you're a Founder Elite, you should now (I hope) have the Mercenaries expansion added to your Steam account.  We've not done this before so let's try this and see.

Go to your GalCiv III item in Steam, right click and go to betas.

Type: ToriansArceansMercs as the password.

This should unlock the beta of 1.6 which enables Mercenaries. Maybe.

Let me know if this works.

Downloading now.

Damn, and I just started the Snathi campaign. Oh well, downloading.

BTW,  Perhaps an obvious point, but I STRONGLY suggest that folks temporarily turn off any mods that they might be running until we know for certain what's been changed in 1.6/Merc.  There's gonna be a lot of changes and I strongly suspect some of the mods floating around out there won't be compatible with 1.6/Merc without being upgraded.

I mostly say this so we don't go running to SD complaining about crashes when it's our own mods possibly causing the problems. ;)

As a point of reference I will be shocked if the mod that I run that modifies the number of stars and planets on a map will work without being updated.

Most mods will be fine, yes (especially append mods).  Still, can't be too careful until we know for sure. :D

Code works for me as well. However update is downloading slowly. Perhaps it's on my end though...

Going at Full Throttle for me.  Mind, I'm on DSL, so it ain't exactly blazing.  Still, at my peak 315k at the mo.

Download finished, gonna start playing. Sleep is for the weak.

Looks like I have 1.6.  But it DOES NOT look like I have Mercenaries.  Can anyone confirm that they got that?

It shows 1.6, but no new campaign, Arceans or Torians. I do not see the expansion in the DLC screen or any new files.

Restarting Steam did nothing, will now try verifying cache integrity.

Working ...

Though just in case anyone gets confused as to how to actually do this (I'm sure some will):

1.  Open Steam, go to your Library

2.  Right-Click on Galactic Civilizations III

3.  Click on "Properties"

4.  Click on "Betas"

5.  Type in the password Brad gave (or copy+paste -- BUT BE SURE to delete any wayward spaces that might get caught before or after the password when you paste)

6.  Click "Check Code"

7.  Change "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" to "vip_build -"

Voila!  Beta should start to download on its own.

That looks to be the 1.6 beta.  It doesn't appear to include any of the files directly related to the new Expansion.

Still nothing, I will now try to opt-out, restart Steam and opt back in.

The upload was about 500meg.Not enough for the art assets.

Yeah, in the game now, there's no new intro or splash screen/main menu, and none of the Mercenaries races (Torians, Arceans, etc.) appear to be in as races you can pick starting a new game.  Version number does say 1.6 from the main game menu.

Wait, there's no Founder's badge on your profile I see.  Were you still able to get the code to work?

I would think that's a bug to Founder's early access, unless Brad intended to go by the honor system on a public forum post with the password.

BTW, I've already discovered a couple of errors in the XMLs for 1.6 (might as well look them over, no? ;P).  Should I go ahead and flag them in the Support forum or should I do it here or via ticket?

It does unlock 1.6, but doesn't enable Mercenaries.

Perhaps the 1.6 needs to be downloaded then Mercs will be allowed to download (when it's actually uploaded?).

The Founders Badge reappears and disappears at random for some reason at the moment. Trust me when I say I shelled out the money to be an elite founder.

BTW: My badge is showing up for me, FWIW. ;):

Still no luck with the expansion, the size on disk does change from 11.38 GB to 12.26 GB. So it is downloading something.

Confirmed. Good looking 1.6 is on, but na signs of Mercenaries... :/

I didn't think of this and just started a game with my regular settings.  I was only using race mods, but I don't know what all they changed.  I started with my usual settings and the galaxy I got had habitable planets everywhere, resources everywhere, relics everywhere, black holes everywhere - you get the idea.

I have turned off mods and will start a new game.

I did notice that the list of resources and relics on the galaxy screen is now vertical instead of horizontal.

Also, when I exited the game, it crashed.  The Stardock crash log program uploaded something.

They changed some of the settings in MapSetupDefs (just happened to be looking it over) which governs most of that behavior (though not all), though I don't know why that would necessarily do anything with a race mod.

Haven't actually mucked about much with 1.6, as I tend to look things over after I verify it can load.

If Merc doesn't/can't drop I'll take my own look at 1.6 once I've finished my inital glance at the changes made.

Apologies.  It did reappear the next time I saw yours.  Yeah, Stardockians should fix that, heh.  I in no way have access to Stardock's records, of course. :P  I -thought- I remembered your nick from back in the founder pre-release days, but my memory isn't what I would call reliable.

hmmm, is there a change log for 1.6 anywhere? If we don't have Mercenaries it would at least be nice to have a list of things we could be looking for in the update.
