Supermelee

Sorry if I've missed any discussion on this, but as the new StarControl will not have any of the old aliens as part of the story, has anyone revealed if the series' old ships will make it into supermelee?  I think it would be great if we'd still be able to fly as (or against) all the old staples, even if they aren't playable in the main story mode.  If I recall, all the ships from SC1 made it into the SC2 supermelee even though they weren't in the game itself.

They probably won't make it in. The reason why even the SC1 ships from dead or evolved races made it into SC2 was that the artwork and mechanics already existed. SC2 leveraged from SC1. With SCR, there is no existing artwork to leverage. The ships would have to be created from scratch. Should they create these old ships, or should they spend the their resources creating new ones?

Allegedly, the modding tools will be good enough for us to retrofit the ships in. I suspect that a modder will do this. Heck, I suspect that a modder will recreate SC2 in its entirety.

I am still really hoping for at least a "supermelee" space hockey done SC-style.  Even just a primative version would be great, but a well-done "space hockey on a pinball machine table" would obviously be even better.

Base defense and capture the flag would give the game a complete multiplayer with 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 dueling, Space Hockey, Base Defense, and Capture the Flag.  Modders might then be inspired to add more multiplayer zones, and the game would have the bare minimum for a complete multiplayer within this genre.

Space Hockey, in particular, is perfect for star control.  It's almost like this 30 year old idea has just been sitting around waiting to become "Frungy".

I think they will. It is however one of the most popular parts of SC1 and SC2. Maybe they will find a  way to ramp it up. I would be cool with a Ring Runner type melee.

I wish they'd be the old ships in melee. Not only they'd be cool to have, but they'd keep the devs honest when designing new ones. Not this "since there is no Yehat or Melnorme in this game, let's add a ship that moves and fires like Yehat and has Melnorme's special" business. Not saying it's sure to happen, but the temptation is there.

Anyways modder or dev, please implement the VUX Intruder with all its glory including the way it's supposed to always warp in right next to the enemy ship when it enters the battle.
