The shows you watched in 2015

The shows you watched in 2015

If games can have thread like this, TV shows deserve one of their own too...

Personally i watched:

12 Monkeys:  not the best show ever and on occasion bit of a míndfuck, but overall i enjoyed and look forward to second season. I am sure many people would hate it, pick plotholes and whatonot and granted, it has its weaknesses, but its a show that makes you actually think, what is going on and guess, what might happen next. That is always a good thing in my book.

Vikings 3rd season: i think it kept its standard from previous years. Means its good, but personally prefer Game of Thrones more. Lot of pretty women in this one :-D Anyway, bring on season 4.

Helix 2nd season: terrible show. Dont watch. I should have known better after terrible first season, but there was certain hope it may get better. It did not, surprisingly, LOL. The only good thing i took from it was the song "Do you know the way to San Jose" by Dionne Warwick - never heard it before watching this show.

Under the Dome 3rd season: another one i watched, cause of gained momentum i guess. Cause its not really good. Not as terrible as Helix, but still garbage. Again the only good thing about it over the past 3 years is the song called "End of the World" by Skeeter Davis - never heard it before and totally love it. Not good enough to fool me into watching it 4th year in the row, if there is one more season.

Falling Skies 5th and final season: thank god. Still dont understand why i kept watching it 5 summers in the row, cause i never really liked it. Maybe cause of the post-apocalyptic setting and overall atmosphere, but otherwise, it was IMO weak from the start, got only worse in time and this final season was just nail in the coffin. Probably the worst scifi show containing alien spieces i ever saw.

Game of Thrones 5th season: better than season 4 IMO, not as good as initial 2, or maybe 3. Still looking forward to season 6th. Seeing the progress of the story so far, i doubt it will ever come to its conclusion. The ratings will bust long before.

True Detective 2nd season: not as good as season 1 IMO, but still fairly decent.

The Killing US (full series): probably the best of the lot i watched. Absolutely awesome. Great acting, screenplay, atmosphere, everything. Highly recommended.

The Bridge US (full series): not as good as Killing IMO, but still great and worth watching.

The Wayward Pines: new sci-fi. Got sort of surprised by certain thing, expected time travel based on what i read, but it was something else in the end, sort of unique for these kind of shows. Hope i am not spoiling too much. Otherwise, it was decent, but saw better shows before.

Dark Matter: feels a lot like Stargate, cause same producers. I liked Stargates, so i fairly liked this. It was bit too episodic few times and felt like filler, but there was bunch of great episodes near the end, so hopefully that trend will continue next season. Overall i think they managed to get together mostly likeable bunch of actors, who have good chemistry together. Just like Stargate did. The main female actress is really hot. :-D Looking forward to next season.

Kill Joys: competition to Dark Matter, similarly set in space. I guess overall i prefered DM, but kinda liked this as well. Certainly had its strong points. Both have sort of overarching mystery, DM concerning the past of the main crew, this one concerning local politics and some secret organisation, so it kept me interested even through those weaker episodes. Once again, main female character is incredibly hot, actually i cant say whether more than the one from Dark Matter or this one, :-D I hope its not too sexist to say things like this, hahaha. Its not the reason i watched either of the shows, but it certainly did not annoy me to look at some pretty faces.

The Last Ship 2nd season: i actually kinda liked it. The over the top patriotism was over the top as usual, but this one had some nice antagonists, and overall i liked it more than first season.

The Extant 2nd season: pretty much the same feelings as in case of Last Ship. Did not think i was going to like it, but it was not that bad in the end.

The Whispers: it had interesting background mystery, just the small writ-up on the IMDB page concerning its plot made me want to watch it. It was fairly decent in the end IMO, but the ending was bit shit.

The Dig: concerning some old prophecies and religion, taking place mostly in Jerusalem, fairly decent with weak ending (for different reasons) like Whispers. Once again the background plot hooked me in, the conclusion could be better though. But this one at least was closed story arc, so any possible second season will be about something else.

Allegiance: only saw 4 episodes so far, concerning russian spies in US. Not that great so far, but i am not giving up on it yet.

The Expanse: so far watched only 5 episodes, but its probably the second best show i watched. And its scifi set in space, yay! With spaceships and stuff. More serious than Dark Matter or KillJoys and i like that. Cant wait for the next episode. Highly recommended.

Thats it, quite a lot, did not realize until now, haha. Anyway, your turn!

The best series that I have seen in 2015 is called Killing Fields. It is about a true cold case which is shot in real time by real detectives (not actors). Here is what the show is about.

There are isolated places in America that appear untouched by anyone. But underneath the surface, these beautiful landscapes reveal a much more sinister reality - a dumping ground for bodies and a home to countless unsolved murders. On Tuesday, January 5 at 10 PM ET/PT, Discovery Channel will premiere its first-ever true crime series titled KILLING FIELDS and take viewers inside an active criminal investigation as it unfolds.Shot in real time, the series follows the hunt for the killer.

KILLING FIELDS will go inside a case that went cold nearly two decades ago in the small community of Iberville Parish, Louisiana, located just 15 miles from the state capitol, Baton Rouge. In June 1997, Louisiana State University graduate student Eugenie Boisfontaine was last seen near LSU's lakes. Two months later, her body was found nearby in a watery ditch with evidence of blunt force trauma to her head.

But who did it and why? Was it a single act of violence? Or was her murder part of a much bigger string of killings? Between 1997 and 2003, there were 60 cases of missing and murdered women in the area that went unsolved. And to make it even more complicated, the Baton Rouge area had multiple serial killers operating at the same time with two of the victims living on the same street as Eugenie. Could these murders be connected? detective Rodie Sanchez was assigned to the case in 1997 and hasn't stopped thinking about it since. He makes the bold decision to come out of retirement and gets permission to re-open the case. Rodie is determined to solve the mystery and make good on a broken promise to Eugenie's mother: to find the person (or persons) responsible for killing her daughter.

"You never forget your first murder or crime scene," Rodie said. "Once that gets in your blood, you want to be a cop for the rest of your life. I had a good life in law enforcement for over 30 some years. I missed it and thought about [this case] every day." Joining Rodie in the chase is a young hot-shot detective, Aubrey St. Angelo, who has a knack for reading people and isn't afraid to ask the tough questions. However, the two can't solve this case alone - they are joined by top-notch detectives at the Iberville Parish Sheriff's office. With advancements in forensic science and DNA analysis, a lot has changed since 1997. But will this be enough to crack the case for good? And will Rodie be able to finally rest and move beyond the case that has forever haunted him?

Orphan Black - best -(only seen season one and two). Very witty dialog.

Of all the shows currently...if you have never seen this one...do it.

She has to be the best actor in modern history...bar none.

Agree....

Ditto.... in triplicate and on hard copy up in the 'cloud'

...

I read one guy's thoughts on a forum and he felt Orphan Black was just a promotional carriage for Tatiana Maslany and that it was poorly scripted, acted and produced.  I thought to myself after reading that: "You obviously not watching the same show I am."
...

Whoever wrote that the show was poorly scripted, acted, and produced is definately not watching the same show.  The plot details, fortellings, etc. in the first two weasons are truly clever and consistent.  Can't speak to season 3 and 4 (yet).

He was watching Orphan Black, because he commented on various events and named Tatiana Maslany as being a no talent.  For mine, he just wanted something to bitch about, and simply unleashed his dissatisfaction with life on Orphan Black.  In fact, his was the only negative review out of hundreds, so it can be dismissed as sour grapes or something.

As for Tatiana Maslany being a no talent, not only does she convincingly play multiple roles, she also is an executive producer and contributes to the script writing... not to mention that she's a hottie and makes to show look good.   I also like the characters of Felix and the 'soccer mom's' hubby.  They inject humour and a lighthearted look on things.

And to think I almost never watched it.  The title sort of suggested a dour drama about some child who'd lost its parents, and I really wasn't up for something like that.  Thankfully, I went to TV.com and IMDB to check it out and see what it really was about.  In fact, it was on TV.com that I read the negative review.... and was lucky not to spit shandy all over my screen when I burst out laughing at the outgrageous comments he made.

Oh, and seasons 3 and 4 are equally as good as the first two. :)

Being sick and bored, not feeling like doing things i should be doing, decided to update this thread with list of shows i watched during 2016....

X-Files 2016 - it was terrible, bar maybe 1 or 2 episodes? Which were actually passable cause of the comical relief? Seriously, i was looking forward to it, this time around a year ago, and could not be more disappointed

12 Monkeys - 2nd Season - 1st season was IMO promising, but the second kinda turned to crap. Moved away from the initial premise of saving the world from plague via means of time-travel to some more sci-fish and grandiose things... and it did it no good IMO. Too bad, really liked it last year. Some shows just feel like they are developed as they go, there is no master-plan where its all supposed to lead and this feels exactly like one of them.

Vikings - 4th season - it started quite well, but was mostly boring IMO overall. Time for it to end - which seems to be happening. One has to compare to GoT, because of similar setting, although clearly Vikings are more grounded in reality - bottom line, GoT is far superior show.

Game of Thrones - 6th season - probably best season of the show from the initial one. Finally got some answers and conclusions, not to mention it kinda got some surprising sci-fi aspects. The final episode was awesome, another Red Wedding moment... definitely worth watching.

Dark Matter - 2nd season - was not IMO as good as initial season, too many filler episodes. It was at its best at the start and at the end - which ultimately makes me want to see whats next. Still, slight disappointment, hopefully it improves with another season.

Killjoys - 2nd season - in contrast to DM, it got better. Actually prefered this one this time around. Had some serious plot development, which i liked. And good music, which is nowhere to be found to download, WTF!

Last Ship - 3rd season - as expected, in line with previous 2 seasons. I prefered second season though. This had quite a nice conspiracy plot though with a fairly OK ending. Could not be more patriotic.

11.22.63 - show about time travel and JKF assasination. So far watched 4 out of 8 initial episodes, so not going to judge yet.

Ascension - only 6 episodes, but quite interesting plot about journey to Alpha Centauri with a massive twist already on the second episode. I quite liked it and its sad there is not going to be more, as this one actually deserved it more than many other shows.

Designated Survivor - 1st season - had its weak moments and its not exactly believable, but has some nice conspiracy plot, which ended currently with massive midseason finale cliffhanger and i am looking forward to see more of it.

Stranger Things - quite a pleasant surprise. Usually not a fan of shows with children, but i liked this one. Not overly original, but otherwise okayish plot, great cinematography and music, good pacing IMO. Looking forward to next season.

Sense 8 - only watched 4 episodes so far, so wont comment. Its about 8 people around the world who find out to be connected.

OA - only started to watch, saw 2 episodes so far. Its about a blind girl, who was missing for 7 years, then it returns and can see... while it has clearly some supernatural aspects, the reasons behind her going missing seem to be quite more down to earth... i feel i am gonna like it overall, probably moreso than Sense 8, although its less scifish.

Westworld - it had clearly high production values, interesting backstory, good acting, etc.. but i think, its kinda overrated. I like shows with mysteries, which keep you guessing, whats going to happen next or what was meaning of this or that - this clearly was one of them, which is good. But it done it in quite a shit manner, but following several storylines, happening at different times, although without clearly stating it - its not really that hard to create a puzzle under such conditions. Whats hard, is not make it all confusing, which it was at times. Meanwhile, the main premise or premises was pretty simple in nature.

Thats it... anyone watched any of this and if yes, whats your opinion on it?

Of the ones you listed I only watched 12 Monkeys season 2; Game of Thrones season 6; Stranger Things and Sense8.  However, I will get around to the others as have them saved to drive on my Foxtel set topbox.

Like you, I like season 1 of 12 Monkeys better than season 2.  In 2 the plot got a little too convoluted and became a whole different storyline.  It was okay but could have been better.

I loved Game of Thrones season 6 and felt it was the best one yet.  I loved it when the youngest Stark girl disguised herself with one of those face masks and ended up killing Walder Frey.  I didn't like the dirty old bastard and he got what he deserved.  I'm sooooo looking forward to season 7.

I liked Stranger Things a lot.  The parallel worlds meeting and crossing over was great, and I loved how the kids never gave up on their friend who was taken to the 'other side'.  There is a season 2 which is scheduled to air in early 2017.

I won't spoil it for you by revealing plot and storylines, but if you enjoyed the first 4 episodes then you're in for a treat.  There is also a second season for Sense8 due for release in early 2017.

Another Sci.Fi/Horror I finished watching in 2016 was Hemlock Grove, about 2 teen boys with special abilites who are drawn together to fight evil.  I shan't say anything more so as not to ruin it for others who haven't seen it as yet, but it is one TV series I enjoyed immensely.  Sadly, there will be no more as the producers ended it with season 3.

Two other shows I thoroughly enjoyed in 2016 were Blindspot and Quantico, both of which are centred around the FBI and two powerful female agents.  I'm into season 2 of each at the moment, with both series delivering great plots and storylines.

The great and absolutely fantastic Orphan black returns on April 17 2017..... oooooohhh, I can't wait. :)

Thx for comments and recommendations. My personal top moments of Season 6 GoT were the Hodor reveal and then first 10-15 minutes of the final episode. One for the mind-boggling possibilities it offers in regard to how it could backwards affect entire storyline, the other for the same reasons as Red Wedding - quite a naturalistic depiction of really bad things about to come...  I guess only one other show did it for me as well as GoT - Breaking Bad...

I definitely plan to see entire first season of Sense8 through, it has its strong points no doubt. Dont know a thing about Hemlock Grove, so i gotta watch some trailer, but TBH based on your description Blindspot and Quantico are probably more my kind of shows. Will seek all 3 of them on Netflix, once i finish watching Sense8 and Travelers.

Yeah, I liked how they revealed how Hodor got his name, but I was saddened that he was killed off.  Hodor was one of my favourite characters... and who's going to look after/protect Bran Stark now?  Yes, he has that girl and her brother, but Hodor was such a fearless and imposing figure.

As for season 7 and beyond, I see the Whitewalkers becoming a greater threat and the Mother of Dragons being the saviour of Westeros when her dragons defeat the Whitewalkers with fire.  After that I see her taking her rightful place on the Iron Throne.  Okay, I'm supposing somewhat here, but it's a possible scenario that makes sense, and one that I hope comes to fruition.

Season 1 of Sense8 ended differently to what I expected, but it left and opening for season 2 to begin.  If season 2 is as good as the first one then it'll be another have-to-watch.

With regard to Hemlock Grove, it has its supernatural elements through the teen boys but also has sci-fi elements through a doctor who experiments in some rather weird things.  In essence, then, it is a supernatural/sci-fi thriller that keeps you guessing 'til the end.

Both Blindspot and Quantico are excellent thrillers with many twists and turns.  I have thoroughly enjoyed watching both thus far... and I believe the best is yet to come in both shows.

As for Netflix, I tried it out briefly but was disappointed with the available content here in Australia, and thus went back to Foxtel, which has a greater selection, plus the sports I like to follow.  Yeah, Netflix here has a lot of the old shows and movies, many of which I'd already seen, but very little in the way of new series' and new releases.  Foxtel is a bit the same with lots of repeats and reruns, but it does have new content every month and live sports... not to mention GoT and Orphan Black, which Netflix in Australia doesn't.  Not only that, the Foxtel set topbox has a 500gb HDD and I can record the various series and movies I'd like to watch at a more suitable time.

So i finished watching it. It really got better, there were some insane scenes later on and by that i dont mean purely those action packed ones - even though these were awesome... but the scene in Diego Rivera museum and dialogue between Nomi and Lito while Mad World playing in the background - that was film making at its finest.

In other news, i forgot to list Narcos in my 2016 list. I saw first season and now i am halfway the second one. Its truly great show.

Another 2 shows i managed to watch since the beginning of the year are:

Travelers - about bunch of people, who come from the future to prevent some terrible things from happening, which gonna fuck up the human kind. Not the most inventive premise, but i actually liked the show. It kinda followed bit different path as i expected, which i assume was good. Looking forward to next season.

OA - already mentioned before, now finished watching. It is a must see kind of show. Utterly brilliant. As usual, people on IMDB boards would rip it apart for being unreal and shit ending, nitpicking little stuff, while completely missing the whole point. As far as i am concerned, it was almost spotless.

Funnily, people, who liked it, would generally want second season, as the ending was pretty ambigue and there were some questions left - while this is true, i believe this is perfect as it is and should not really be tampered with anymore, as the main idea was made pretty clear to the viewers and all this little questions, what it meant, whether it was real or not, they really should be left up to viewers for them to decide....

Four more days till Expanse season 2!

Dexter is indeed great show. All around entertaining. And that Hannah blondie in that last season... :dur:

Dont forget to post your feelings about the ending, once you done with it. And which of the seasons was your favourite. Mine probably the second and then the Trinity killer one....

@Starkers> what is The 100 about again? And why its good? Finishing Sense 8 frees me to choose something new, perhaps that could be the one.

It is about the remnants of civilisation living on a space station for almost a century after a holocaust makes the planet incapable of sustaining life... until life support systems on the space station begin to fail and 100 teenagers with criminal histories are sent back to Earth to see if it again can sustain life.

This is where the real story begins.  The thing is, they are not alone.

Didn't have a favourite series...as we watched them one after another....went along for the whole ride altogether over the Xmas-New Year break.

Without ruining it for anyone who hasn't seen it all/yet....[I SERIOUSLY DESPISE people who do]...

It wasn't the ending I had imagined...and there was one death too many.

Other than that...not saying more.

Great series - plural [all 8]...;)

Meanwhile, i started to watch a show called Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland. So far, only 2 episodes, but i fairly like it. The premise revolves around KS´s i assume autistic son,  who is capable seeing future - but not i na way like seeing something to happen with his "mind eye", rather somehow through numbers...like in the first ep (SPOILER - he knows some guy wins a lotto with particular series of numbers, which hold hidden relevance to him too on certain date, which leads to another series of events, which the boy anticipates, because he has the ability to compute it all somehow....SPOILER) - right. Honestly, I would actually believe more if he simply saw it all in his mind. Anyway, this does not prevent me from enjoying it.

Watching it i realized i forgot to list one more show i watched last year - starring who else if not Kiefer Sutherland, LOL. Its called Designated Survivor, its fairly run of the mill kind of conspiracy/political thriller, but it had its strong points on occasion, despite sometimes being hardly believable. It ended with midseason finale cliffhanger and its supposed to continue in March, so i am curious about further development.

Time to update this thread with more stuff i watched since my previous post, 2017 edition!

Expanse - 2nd season - it was awesome, as expected. I would guess i prefered the first season more, but that one sort of caught me not prepared, i had no previous info about it. Now, i read the books, so i knew what was going to happen, so the moment of surprise was gone. That is simply going to take away bit of fun, no way around it.  Still, highly recommended to watch to anyone who likes scifi shows.

Dark Matter - 3rd season - overall prefered it to second season, has some background storylines, first only alluded to, babylon 5 style - until more rapid development happens in last few episodes culminating in awesome season finale.

Killjoys - 3rd season - contrary to Dark Matter, i thought it was weaker than Season 2. Its quite funny, 2 years ago i felt Dark Matter was a superior shows, last years roles reversed only now to return back... maybe next year they will reverse again? Bottom line, it was okayish.

Narcos - 1st and 2nd season, now started to watch 3rd one, 2 episodes in. About Pablo Escobar and fight against colombian narcobarons in the 80s/early 90s. Great show. It makes you feel though, as if pretty much every other person in Colombia is some psychopath - the amount of violence depicted is beyond comprehension.

Designated Survivor - 2nd half of season 1 - goes on with its conspiracy story arc, unveiling more about the perpetrators. Then tries to be something like West Wing i guess, i mean being about politics and shit, i guess its a bit of a lefty show in this regard. I dont care though, cause what i like about the show is the conspiracy part.

Touch - season 1 and 2 - another show starring Kiefer Sutherland, this time as a widowed father of autistic son, who has some superhuman skills, more specifically he can predict future by writing some numbers. The first season is sort of a "feel good" show, there a things happening to certain people all around the world, all of it is interconnected and the boy sort of "navigates" the father to make things happen by providing him clues in a form of recurring numbers, so everything plays out the way people end up safe and happy. The episodes are sort of stand-alone, but there are things tying them all together, which gets even deeper in second season, where the show becomes fully serialized. This one is mostly about conspiracy, evil company trying to get control of the boy and other people like him to find out some god sequence of numbers, which could help them to predict future.

I got to say, i did not like the show at first, because the premise seemed too far-fetched. The stand alone episodes started to feel too similar too pretty soon, but luckily the show changed quite a bit with the conspiracy story-arc and i have to say, i enjoyed it ultimately.

Taboo - 1st season - weird show happening in 19th century London. Starring Tom Hardy. Its decent overall, but i dont know, at times bit confusing about what is actually motivation of main character. Safe to say, while high production values, not my favourite this year.

Knick - 1st and 2nd season - about a New York hospital, the medicine pioneers from early 1900s. Good show with some dense a dark atmosphere. 1st season was probably better than the 2nd one, at least i liked it more. Even though there is certain "criminal" sub-story in the second, which i liked. There are some pretty funny scenes,  despite the show being serious otherwise. Like getting X-rayed just for fun, or trying to heal the cocaine addiction with heroin. I like medicine shows, always liked ER, Chicago Hope, Dr. House, Medical Investigation... while i am not sure i liked Knick as much as any of them, its at least different, which is good.

Game of Thrones - season 7th - continued being awesome from mid-point of season 6. At its best IMO, since first 2 seasons. Totally badass. Looking forward to final season.

Salvation - 1st season - about asteroid about hitting the Earth. Was expecting something like Deep Impact, which is absolutely awesome movie, one of my favs, but its different. More about conspiracies and stuff so far. But i still like it and wonder what is gonna happen next. Reminds me of Fringe somewhat?

Sense8 - 1st season - finished watching it. It turned out to be awesome. Some really great scenes, my fav being the conversation between Lito and Nomi characters in the Diego Rivera museum, with a Mad World piano version by Marius Furche playing in the background. Well written, well acted, well directed... simply perfect.

Thats all, i guess, not recollecting anything else. I have been watching quite a lot of Criminal Minds, actually on TV, but that is still ongoing, so not commenting on that.

EDIT: I see now i mentioned few of the shows before, so now with more detailed description again.

Yeah, GoT has truly got me addicted.  Season 7 [for mine] [and without spoilers] has been the best thus far.  I have just loved it and can't wait for season 8.... the final and last one.  Boo-hoo, what am I gonna do when it's all over?  I recently watched the finale of Orphan Black and have been going through withdrawal symptoms ever since, and now I must contemplate the end of GoT as well.

Oh well, both series are worthy of a second viewing, so once GoT has ended I'll start watching them on bluray.  I already have the entire Orphan Black series on disc, and season 7 of GoT is next on my hit list, though the wait for season 8 'll be agonising.

The most mindblowing shows of this year, as for me, is GoT 7, Stranger Things 2 and Mindhunter. The shows keep getting better and better.

No clue about Mindhunter, gotta check it out. But totally agreed about GoT and Stranger Things 2 is on my list, right after i finish at least one of the trio ST:Discovery, Designated Survivor season 2 and Sense8 season 2!

A new show I want to check out is Hard Sun, a British sci-fi thriller that looks quite promising, according to the previews I've seen.  Hopefully I'll know more in the next few days.

If they ever get back to it....First ep and then fucking around with a bunch of twits snowboarding and flag waving for a couple of weeks....

Just checked the trailer, looks really promising, thanks for suggestion!

Meanwhile, i watched Mindhunter, 2 seasons of Leftovers, Stranger Things season 2, ST: DIscovery, DARK, Inside No. 9 first season, which i keep watching nowadays alongside Counterpart, which is, as far as the main premise go, similar to Fringe (parallel world), only more serious... I could recommend all of these, each has its own strong points.
