Universe 2808 WIP Thread

Wasn't really sure where to post this, so hopefully it can be moved if need be.

One of the things that made me jump on the founders program was the talk of tools and of alternate games/mods being a big focus for the new SC. I'm a wannabe indie dev, and since I love SC, seemed like a fun thing to try and work towards creating one of those alternate dimensions. Don't have a lot of free time, so progress may be slow and/or sporadic on this, and will also depend on the tools that we end up getting, just as warning. 

Anyway, keeping things pretty loose at the moment, especially until we see what the tools are like, just wanted to put the general feel for some of the things I want to do down. Open to feedback, but don't be offended if I don't go with a suggestion, this is more for fun/sharing than anything else

Note: Some things, including names, are just placeholders.


First up -

The Rafflarum
Most like: Mycon

Traits: Cunning, patient, arrogant, unempathetic

Initial contact log:
The Rafflarum are... Well, do they count as talking plants if they don't actually speak directly? They have a symbiotic relationship with another species that seems to be nonsentient. They describe it as “a sharing of food and limbs”. The partner species remind me of lemurs, but they move in jerks and spasms (potential motor control issues?). The Rafflarum don't seem to have a concept of time, but we worked out that the pseudo-lemurs have a relative short lifespan, between 10 and 15 years. While the Rafflarum themselves might have a dozen partners or more across a lifetime.

The plants themselves feel... strange. They've been friendly so far, offered trade and made some overtures towards mutual assistance. They even altered the air in their ship to be breathable when we went over for a visit so we could get out of our suits. I can only hope every first contact goes as well as this. But, I'm just not quite sure about it all, something always feels off. When I interact with them, there's no issues. It's peaceful and even jovial at times. They seem straightfoward, open, genuine... It's how I feel afterwards. Afterwards, when you think about how they undulate those fleshy petals all the damn time and give off that sickly sweet smell. How the vocal cords on their partner species don't seem quite built for speech and the words press into your mind. Thinking about them now makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, but I can't provide any good reason as to why. Maybe I'm being paranoid. Maybe it's these damn headaches I've been getting lately. Maybe it's time to visit the Medbay... End log.
