Another Old Classic

Since a lot of you seem to be into older "retro" games I thought I'd show you this.  One of my favorite games of all time, from the earliest days of computer games (released in 1984).  The unspeakably awesome "Star Fleet 1: The War Begins".

And this is what I played when my dad built his IBM PC.

It's the intermediary game between the original Spacewar and Star Control 1. It had lasers, missiles, cloaking, and hyperspace. It had a central planet (or not) with gravity.

Watching it reminded me of how much I hated the zoom in Star Control.

EDIT: Fixed the images. They were coming up as Sonic on some computers. Sorry.

Star Fleet 1: The War Begins looks pretty similar to Argonaut. An early PC game.  One of my favs. :)

Star Fleet 1 was what I considered the best version of a "family" of early games originally known just as "Begin".  It was the sci-fi counterpart to "Rogue" which later became known by the name of it's best version "NetHack".  There was 3rd early "family" of games like this, called "Empire", which was partially the inspiration for Civilization.  In the earliest days of PC gaming Rogue, Begin, and Empire were like "the big 3" games.  Pretty much everything else were simple clones of arcade games like Hard Hat Mack (Donkey Kong).

Ahhh... Games on an Apple II in 1985:-)

Well if we talk of old classics I fondly remember Kingdom of Kroz.
