SD will have more info on this come January (per their tentative schedule) but I thought I'd get the ball rolling on this discussion early. Even though this has been discussed in the public forums, I wanted to open the discussion here with the Founders.  A big part of what made the SC2 so compelling was the awesome soundtrack, from navigation, to ship loadouts, to alien encounters.  It was because the original score was done by different artists, its lack of coherence helped to emphasize the differing parts of the game, and the different personalities of the aliens.  I know I was immediately sucked in when I heard the 'solar system' and 'starbase' background music for the first time, and I'm stoked that an original composer is on board. (I admittedly have re-listened to the SC2 soundtrack and remixes many times over the years)

So what did you like/dislike about the classic soundtrack?  What would you like to see (hear) in SCR and what type of music do you think SCR can do without?  Do you think the music of SCR should follow a similar path of multiple composers or should it be more coherent?

That's yours? I've had it in my favorites for a while now, and listened to it a bunch of times, it's really good!
Yes, and thanks ... it is really awesome to know a fellow Founder has it on a playlist!

I've actually got a whole bunch of music that's going into this game ... one way or another.  *_*

Our race of Founderlings must be amusing to our galactic overlords.

It's not enough like SC2! Change it!

It's too much like SC2! Change it!

Well, that's why we're here. BTW, not everything is being negatively critiqued. I, for one, like the new planets. Good thing I didn't play Spore after animal stage...  B)

The ringtone track is missing development/progression and groove. Probably, 'cause it's a ringtone... I love the sounds used in it though. Totally on board with that.

WOWZ!! Your stuff is siiiiiiiiiick!!  :dur:

Pkunk = perfect as is.

Syreen = drums need a better/more contemporary sound. Otherwise, great!

Mycon = Mindblowing!! But, please, swap piano for something more synthetic/non-natural.

Melee 1 = perfect as is.

Melee 2 = let's not use this one XD

Hyperspace = is just total eargasm...

Hyperspace concept = let's not use this one XD Too "dancy"

Quasispace = needs more progression/development in the middle/end (maybe add a flute). Otherwise, perfect!

Thanks Hunam. I appreciate the feedback. In response:

Mycon - Completely agree about swapping out the piano for something more synthetic to make it sound more foreign. I originally composed it on the piano and thought it just sounded more dramatic that way and haven't settled on a substitute yet.

Melee 2 - I wanted to be a little more goofy and less serious with a combat theme, hence the goofy vocals towards the end. I believe there should be multiple melee themes and even race-specific ones, so that combat against different aliens always has a different feel and isn't just the same theme every time.

Quasispace - I also want to add more to this one eventually too. The intent was to make it a completely orchestral adaptation of the original with no synthetic instrumentation, but also very subdued and mysterious. For me at least, it was a huge discovery to enter Quasispace for the first time; it was such an unexpected surprise that I was so dumbstruck and in awe of the idea of a "dimension above dimensions" that I felt scared and filled with trepidation to explore it, rather than bold and adventurous.
