A Welcome to the Star Control Founder's Private Forums from Vaelzad!

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the Star Control Founder’s forums!

First and foremost. Thank You for becoming a Star Control Founder!

The purpose of the Founders program is to give your individual voice and feedback weight. We look at every person’s response and opinion and give it consideration. Whether we act on your opinion or not, I guarantee that your voice was heard and considered.

Secondly, please respect the NDA. Being chosen to participate in the Founder’s program is a privilege, and we want to share as much as possible with you. However if you have a hard time restricting your communication about what you see in the forums and the vault exclusively to the Star Control Founder’s forums you will force us to take action.

Third, never hesitate to give us your feedback. If you like, don’t like, or aren’t sure how you feel about something with regards to the game let us know. Be descriptive with your feedback, we want to know what you think and why you think it. Letting us know what you liked and didn’t like and why is 1000x more useful to us than providing a solution on how you would do it. If you feel you have an opinion about the game that you don’t want to express publicly you can always Private Message one of the Devs.

Finally, I’m really excited to share with you the current behind the scenes of what is going on with Star Control. The team has been hard at work for several months now working on the technology behind systems that needed to be built for us to make this awesome game.

Don't forget to check out your exclusive goodies in the Vault!

Let’s talk about Star Control!!!

Sry I'm a bit late to the party. My account and I were having an argument over the last Frungy match. :)

One of my earliest memories (about 3 or 4 years old) is sitting on my dad's lap watching as he would play SC2 using those big 5 and 1/4 inch floppy disks on his 286 (later 386) computer with the giant map of hyperspace sprawled on the floor as we explored the galaxy together. He taught me how to read longitude and latitude and I would play his navigator for both Hyperspace and Quasispace. I can honestly say, much of my early reading and writing skills along with problem solving skills, came from this game.

Over 20 years later I may use the modern version of the game, I even got into collecting games and have more then I can count, but I still have my dad's old box of the original game and still use that giant map when I play it. I love the approach we appear to be taking towards this new game and I look forward to working with everyone here to make this dream come true.

It's nice to meet everyone.  Thank you to Stardock for the invite and for the first November Founder's Vault Edition.  The info* in there- specifically information on who's in the dev team- made me feel better about my decision to sign up.  As mentioned in my survey, I'm a Star Citizen funder and my confidence in that project right now is somewhat less... Thraddash-ish (what part of "just make a modern-day Privateer" did you not understand?).

Like many folks who posted, I grew up with SC1 and SC2, and have been preaching UQM to anyone who'd listen.  I have spent far too much time harvesting minerals, scribbling hand-drawn maps of the Quasispace portals, and fairly reliably getting past the old SC2 copy protection by recalling constellation coordinates from memory.  These days I'm in Fallout4, which if I ever get back to the main story, will be followed by catching up with Assassin's Creed (have had a lousy old gaming laptop for years and finally got myself a new computer, so I'm about three games behind there).

* PS- I've long had a thing against gaming forums, so I've completely avoided reading Stardock's and will most likely continue to, unless pointed to a specific thread (I like reddit's helpful megathreads- do we have those?).  So please pardon my ignorance on stuff that's been shared there.  This more intimate forum should help keep me more engaged.

I am beyond happy to have been selected. Star Control 2 was the first computer game I ever played which left a lasting impact on me for two decades. I must say after reading around on the forums a bit that I am not alone in how I feel this game and the story behind it left a mark on our lives.

I am truly honored to now be part of it's legacy.

So straight up, I've done a lot of Kickstarters and I'm usually more familiar with the developers running them.  This is Kickstarter-ish in that I'm paying money to see behind the curtain a bit more of the development process but it won't have the marketing made promises that plague them all in the final days.  I know I own a few Stardock games but truthfully I'm not sure I ever played them.  I know that Stardock deals a lot in space games but point being, its more of a gamble to me than I'm used to making.  No offense.  I love Star Control though.  I'm sad you can't use the previous alien races but the pics in the vault give me a lot of hope.  I hope the ships are still big on customization!

I feel like I came off more of a bummer than I meant to cause I'm definitely excited for a new Star Control!  Bring on one of the first Pre-P alien races in games!

Pre-P?  8|

Why they can't use the aliens from the previous games? :(O Something of the other games have to survive in this in order to continue "Star Control"

Paul Reiche asked them not to use any of the original races because he still wants to return to his creation some day and continue the story. They'll reveal more of what the story is soon, but my guess is parallel universe or something along those lines.

Oh, got it, shame we will not get to see older races, but i think we will have the "new-Vux" and "new-Ur-quan" like races

I wonder if humans are involved, if it's really another dimension or another galaxy

(by the way, if he is just thinking of continuing the other games, is a good thing in my book!)

"Happy days and jubilation!"- Fwiffo

Happy to be here! Took me a bit to scrounge up the founds and the guts to purchase the lifetime founders edition, and I hope that the investment will pay off.

Been playing starcon since I was 10 years old, and I am still playing. Greatest game in the history of existence!

Quick question though, In the email it states that Star Control prototype builds and tools are coming in Winter 2016! That means this january right?

If you check out the Vault and the pdf in the zip, it gives an estimated timeline on page 7. For the initial tools introduction, it says February 2016. Nice and soon, which will be great! :)

*Edit* Though it looks like we don't get actual code until April, just to be clear.

very excited to be here as well! February would be great - that's my birthday month ;)

I'm beyond pumped every time I see anything. Even if I have negative feedback, I'm honestly trying to force it out to be useful - I never dreamed we would be lucky enough to get another game. Nice to meet you all!

Hello *happy campers*!  So nice to be invited to join the Founders Program.

I haven't been a hardcore gamer since my college days, so I was uncertain about ponying up the cash to join, but one of my students got really excited when I showed him my invite email and said that the "lifetime" aspect was more than worth the cost.  Plus, there's that naming the planet thing, so I jumped on board and gave myself an early Christmas present (as several others here seem to have done).

I do have many thoughts and questions to share, but I think I'll save those for the message threads below.

Cheers!

Karma is a way to judge the quality of the poster, and is only earned from your forum peers. Forums tend to get  alot of people who will just post, post, and post, just to drive their #of posts up to feel important. Karma is the solution. The readers can give you Karma to your posts meaning that they approve that the posts you are making are meaningful to the conversation at hand.

Thanks, finally for the invite. I went full monty so I'm stoked.

Thanks for the invite!  I'm so excited!!!

I'm personally interested in helping with ship design concepts, planet exploration, and tone (see post on Humans alone in the blackness), as well as whatever topic of the month comes up.  I've already got several ship/race ideas, if there's still time to discuss those.

Oh, and I like the cancelled concept art in the vault of the crab/eye creature!  Put that sucker in!  Maybe add suckers, and then put it in!?

:)

This game is one of the main reasons I am into computers.  I still play it and I still talk about it.

Stoked is even the right word for how I feel. Thanks for the opportunity.

I think it's good to bring up this point of this old thread:

"Third, never hesitate to give us your feedback. If you like, don’t like, or aren’t sure how you feel about something with regards to the game let us know."

Many people seem to forget the whole thing he said about, you know, "WITH REGARDS TO THE GAME LET US KNOW". Can we get back there, please?

I believe I traveled every star in the original SC2, just to be sure I am not missing anything.

Even after failing the quest due to insufficient time I stayed in Hyperspace on Sol, guarding it from Ur-Quans, leaving in an empty galaxy with just Ur-Quan and the Melnorome...

If I look in the attic maybe I can find my notes on the game with coordinates, dates, races, etc..

Looking forward for this release, so far everything looks amazing!
