Did they remove notepad

I need to use notepad to modify text in a mod, and discovered it wasn't there, so I tried looking for wordpad and discovered it wasn't there. I'm using windows 10, and how do I find them, or what did they replace it with.

Eh, download Notepad++ or Sublime Text. To answer your question, in the Search the web and Windows box on your task bar type notepad.

Just search for notepad in the search bar. But I do agree that Notepad++ is very useful.

In Windows 10, Start, All Apps, Windows accessories.

You have both Notepad and Wordpad.

Ah, yes, one of the things I hate about almost every windows upgrade: new versions rename, move, etc basic things so the user has to re learn what and where everything is.  ARGGG  :)   Why they just don't allow users to keep previous version's labels, locations, etc., is beyond me.

You don't need a credit card for paint.net, it is free and available here.   Also, it WILL run on x64.  I have Win 8.1 and have it installed and running on it without issue.

It may not say on the download page that it's for Win 10, but my sister has it running on okay her X rig.

MSPaint is native to Windows and wholly inadequate. Paint.Net is open source and free and as a 32bit program it will run on a 64bit OS. I know......I've used it on WinXP SP3 and Win 7. Both were 64bit. Just though I'd throw that out there.

Seriously?!?

All you tech savvy Windows geeks, and not one thought of:

Winkey + R -> type 'notepad' or 'wordpad'.

Really, guys?
Ever heard about doing things the easy way?

Have never seen the win 10, (or 8.x ) interface.  So, I have never experienced or even know if win key exists in those versions of Win; [cf. post 10].  Win mixes things up with every 'new' incarnation of the OS.  Many times its easier to search the web for info than it is to wade through the MS gobble-de-speak trying to find the right selection path through all the buttons, drop down menus, etc.  So I empathize with the tread-starter seeking help on navigating a new MS OS (win10) interface; and look forward to the day when all of us are as MS/OS-savy as you, and as kind as you.

Agree every time I use a new windows things are needlessly renamed. At least the start menu is back.

Thanks that worked after a few hoops. Honestly I can manually upgrade drivers just fine. I would like a download site that would just download what I want not umpteen... But since we are here why is it everything on my system says drivers are current, but this driver update software says 17 drivers are out of date. If I have ways of keeping my drivers up to date why would I buy software to do it when I have software that does it. I downloaded driver update then it tries to charge more money than free which I'm not willing to pay now I have paint.net. If you have more free program ideas I will probably be willing to try it.

I'm lazy if I can do it through the interface I usually don't remember hot keys. Hopefully I will remember that one. Can you make a list of all of windows hotkeys, and paste it hear, so I can come hear as a reference.

Thanks for posting everyone this has actually answered my question. Go Joeuser

I usually don't remember hot keys.

Me either!  Besides, last time I used a 'hot' key I burned off the fingerprint of my typing finger.

Seriously, though, I'm glad you got paint.net running... it is a handy proggie.

As for other recommendations, I go to majorgeeks.com for most software I try.  They feature shareware, freeware, open source and ad supported software.  I avoid the ad supported stuff like the plague, but the other categories are okay and safe to use... with all titles being tested prior to being listed.

So yeah, Give them a try. :)

Try Advanced System Care...http://www.iobit.com/en/advancedsystemcarefree.php

It comes with its own uninstaller, very powerful and it will clean out any left over files. Its also good for removing junk files, etc etc.

Also... https://www.piriform.com/

Nearly everyone uses CCleaner. Say you have a problem with a program and you need to uninstall it. Running CCleaner takes out all the trash so re-installing the program goes without a hitch.

BTW: Should you decide on downloading any of the free programs out there it pays to go to the programs website rather than a download site. Sometimes third party sites piggy back other stuff along with them that you may not want.

So very true, with c-net/download.com being one of them.   It got that bad that I just refuse to go there anymore.  However, majorgeeks does not bundle unwanted crap with any software it hosts.  Furthermore, it does advise users of any software that is ad supported or has been bundled with other items by other entities.  Apparently there are some software developers who bundle things like Google Chrome and McAfee Antivirus apps with their products, but majorgeeks does inform users and advises to deselect unwanted titles during setup.

Majorgeeks is the go to site, for me, when researching software downloads.

I've used filehippo.com  for years and years with good results also. I also avoid c|net ever since they started bundling crapware with their downloads.
