GalCiv3 Freezes on Windows 10 - Help!

Hey, is anyone else experiencing the game loading and playing fine for 5 minutes and then it just freezes up all of a sudden?

If so, please help!

My drivers are up to date.  Bought the game on steam.  Frustrated, can't get a response from support.

Are you getting audio? The audio driver especially with VIA is bad in Win 10. I had the same problem with Witcher 3. Once the audio got enabled the problem got resolved. Wonder if the same happens with Galciv 3

Have you submitted a support ticket? If so, what's the ticket number?

Island Dog, I did submit a ticket, but can't recall the number.

Also, the response from support directed me to the fix page, which I went through each step and still the game plays for several turns and then freezes.

I have this exact same problem!

The freeze occurs somewhat randomly but does seem related to a large visual change (e.g. zooming in/out, scrolling quickly, attacking, or even just ejecting a fleet). I submitted ticket (#CTI-477-67310) and received an email basically saying to update video driver and run game at lowest settings. I did that and it improved but still freezes from time to time. I can still hear music and move the mouse (and can click things judging by the sound) but the actual game screen is completely frozen.

I have uninstalled (now twice) and reinstalled the game as well as using the steam verify file integrity - no improvement.

As a part of trying to get my video drivers as "uptodate" as possible, i accidentlly screwed my computer up and had to completely restore windows 10. After fresh install and reupdating all the drivers... same problem. I've submitted dump data and used the data collection tool on your support site. Other than the initial response from Sean (with support), I have yet to hear anything else.

looking through other forums, it seems like this is an ongoing issues that is somewhat independent to hardware (i.e. multiple users on multiple platforms with the same issue). I suspect that it is a windows 10 compatibility issue but cannot confirm. (https://steamcommunity.com/app/226860/discussions/1/620703493326109789https://forums.galciv3.com/458649/page/1/)

This game seems like it would be amazing but I have been extremely frustrated that i have yet to even finish the first 100 turns!

Please help!

sldougla,

I hear you!  I put the autosaves to every turn and thought that fixed it...it still randomly freezes, but sees to be better...

It appears you have an Intel 4000 onboard video card. This is most likely the reason as it is the minimum spec card to run the game. We are looking at some ideas right now to help with the game running smoother, but I do not have any details at this time to give.

I have this too, also running W10.  3 things helped me tremendously: 1) set page file to 16g  2) Use the latest video drivers DIRECTLY from the intel site for the 4000, 3) Mod the zoom level  to stop just before map icons change to the detailed graphical images.  With these changes i am 90% crash free except on the largest maps

I have an Intel HD graphics 4600, does this still apply?

I would think so.  Its obviously newer but the intel graphics chips are not high end GPU and share your system memory, cutting into the amount you have available.  Your total ram in GC3 is very important.
