Cannot install update 1.56

Could not open the uninstall executable for writing: Access to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8|lua5.1.ddl was denied. C:Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8\uninstall.exe

I have tried to update my Start8 from 1.5 to 1.56 but it fails with fault code 

 

Could not open the uninstall executable for writing:
Access to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8|lua5.1.ddl was denied.
C:Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8\uninstall.exe

I have tried as Admin etc but it wont install.

 

Ideas please?

It sounds like your antivirus is locking files during install to scan them which then prevents the installer moving them.  Some AV apps have a bug with this.

Disabling the AV real time scanning during install should prevent the problem.

I have the exact problem as the OP.

My error message says V1.56 is not compatible with Win10-64... despite the fact that I'm currently running V1.55

The error is displayed even with BitDefender completely shutdown.

Start8 is not compatible with Win10, if that's what you're attempting.

     Why then is V1.55 running with Windows 10-64?

I have not had one single issue with Start8 since upgrading from Win8.1 to Win10.

How could it not be compatible?

There are numerous issues, I can only imagine you have not noticed them for some reason.
