Revenge_of_the_Snathi_1

Galactic Civilizations III - The Revenge of the Snathi DLC is available now for $4.99 through Stardock or Steam.

The Snathi have risen from the ashes of their Precursor prison world. They have only one goal: revenge. The Snathi have vowed to put down those who kept them from taking from their rightful place as the heirs of the Dread Lords. No race is safe from the true face of EVIL... even if it is as cute as a button.

DLC Features:

  • The Snathi Revenge - The Snathi are an ancient race of extremely intelligent and bloodthirsty squirrel-like creatures. They were created by the Dread Lords as the ultimate weapon, but were locked away…until now.

  • Revenge of the Snathi Campaign - Lead the Snathi as they break free from their prison world to take their place as the face of evil in the galaxy.

  • New ships - Completely new Snathi ship styles and ship parts.

  • Scavenge Faction Ability - The “Scavenge” ability allows Snathi to salvage the ships of their vanquished foes.

Available now!

At last we will reveal ourselves to the galaxy.  At last we shall have our revenge.

Gotta say, I freaked out a little when I saw the edge of THIS:

It really is impressive when you see it in all its roaring, rotating glory!   :omg:

This looks way too fun. How many missions in the campaign?

Just the one (it's technically a scenario not a campaign), but it's fun.  Those Arnoran starbases have nice surprises for those destroy them. ;)

Purchased :) surprised but happy to see this as the first race but VERY happy to see a new faction ability in there, that's what will make or break these race mods to come, different ways of playing the game and different styles of opponent to play against. As a bonus of course modders get another ability to distinguish their races too.

So two thumbs up!

I also like that they have significant penalties to these ships, as they are likely to have more, clever balancing mechanic.

Does the DLC offer things that effect sandbox mode if you don't play using minor races? I'm not a particular fan of the Snathi. I prefer to immerse in a serious tone, lol. I saw a reference to an Arnoran starbase. Any chance the Arnorian ranger is back? Any clues?

This one is probably my favorite DLC yet. Possibly the best one we've ever done.

Not sure I understand the question.  But I'll answer what I THINK you are asking.

In this DLC the Snathi Revenge are introduced as a playable MAJOR faction.  They can be included or not, if you want, in Sandbox mode.  The only way they'd slip into a game where you didn't want them is if you hit the Random button for opponents at galaxy creation.

The other two things added, outside of the Snathi themselves and the scenario Revenge of the Snathi, is the new scavenger ability and the Snathi ship style/parts.  Even if you don't like the Snathi themselves (booooo hisssss - burn the heretic ;p), the Scavenger Ability as well as the ship parts will come in handy.  As is access to the Santhi Tech Three, now that  I think about it.

If you wanted to, you could create a Custom Race with this Snathi ship style and tech tree and give them some other leader pic and story background. :)

As for the Arnorans, no, the Ranger isn't back yet.  This is something all new and interesting for this DLC scenario.  Paul likened them more to the Peacekeepers (which makes sense if one looks at the innards of the DLC) but beefed up.  A LOT

And while I won't spoil the surprise, there is some nice benefits to blowing some things up in this scenario.

All in all, well worth the five bucks, I think (even if I am getting it for "free" ;)).

Will the Scavenge ability by selectable in the non-DLC base game?

I don't believe so, no. IIRC that's one of the perks for getting the DLC.

The Snathi tech-tree isn't necessary for the Scavenge ability other than making it better, right? As in, if I am using a different tech tree, I get the ability on it's base level, but cannot upgrade it? It's a bit important to know.

I have had a lot of fun designing factions around the shipstyle, colors, techtree and ability as they make factions even more diverse. Some people might have an issue with the Snathi for being squirrels but are strangely okay with the Thalans (mantis), the Drengin (apes), the Torians (chicks) and so on. A bit of a double standard I'd say.

I love it! "Racism" within a game now... lol Maybe people's attitudes stem from them being in the rodent family? ;) Just saying, their relatives can be pretty nasty.

The Snathi have quickly become my favorite race to play.  I was kinda surprised to see another Snathi in my last game pop up as a minor, though.  Unfortunately, that game got stuck in "WAIT" mode and I had to abandon it.

I'm trying again as the Snathi though.  Fingers crossed.

This is by far the best DLC yet IMO.  :)

Buck, the Snathi tech tree seems to be available. I changed a few of my customs to their ships for variety. I could have sworn the tree was also available.

Lol, Hordesman, I have to respectfully disagree with you. The Snathi are CLEARLY still squirrels, albeit graduates from the "Rambo Academy."  The others do not look anything like the animals some might say inspired them. I have no problem with the Snathi, they simply have always spoiled the immersion for me. To each his own.

This is what happens when myopic little children have cruel aunts and uncles buying them stuffed animals as presents.  "It's a teddy bear, little androshalforc!  Honest, it is!"

:)

I love the Snathi.  My cats, however, are convinced that all squirrels were always evil in the first place, especially the ones in our trees.

I honestly have no idea how you will ever manage to top it.

androshalforc,

I do not know what you are talking about. Snathi are clearly much closer to squirrels than they are to teddy bears. Your pictures only support this conclusion.

A little enlightenment please. I purchased it, but haven't played a game with it yet. As far as the sandbox goes, how is this the best DLC ever? What changes can I look forward to? Thanks all.
