Mine runs the DX11 version, but the DX12 version shows the "Initializing..." screen and then just exits. I'm running the latest release nvidia drivers on a GTX 980M. I'm happy to provide log files or whatever.

Hm I ve have not done anything else expect reinstalling my msi afterburner to check the gpu and cpu load

and ofc installed the intel driver stuff

I went to the intel page mentioned in the troubleshooting post you mentioned and run the intel update utility. The install of the win 10 driver went well anyway I should have done this. But in the case it didn't fix the problem.

If your PC meets the specifications listed here:

And you are experiencing crashing/launching/loading issues, download and run this tool:

i got an answer from helpdesk. it turns out the intel hd graphic adapter is in the saddle. I'd try to unistall all nvidia programs and drivers and manually download the latest driver and done a clean install. i've also updated the intel driver from device manager. but it remains the system graphic adapter.

Any idea how i can force back the graphic card back?

We're looking into it.  You've provided outstanding info though. Thank you!

Had the same issue with the DX12 version of the game getting stuck on initializing (DX11 had no issues at all in this regard) and going no-where, changed the compatibility settings so it runs as admin. Seems to run fine now thus far.

I've had various issues regarding Win10 and games that have been fixed by running them as admin.

That have done it thanks Bogieman. I'm still confuse why it's intel graphic that shows up as my graphic adapter

edit: What works also, right click the .exe and hand pick the graphic card to run the game.

edit again: Doing both is the better I had a crash when I hit start game without running in administrator mode.

I have 2 systems where i can play AOTS and i've noticed this :

The slowest one, has a 560TI card with only 1gig of DRAM, and can run DX11 version with no problem, while as far as i could read, 2gigs of DRAM is the minimum required.

On this system, DX12 version won't start.

I have to install Win 10 for the second system which has GTX770 with 4 gigs of DRAM and check if DX12 version works.

That was just too mention that even on a system without minimum requirements, DX11 version will run, which may not imply DX12 version will.

Ok installed Win 10 on my core i7 / 32gigs / gtx 770 4g and ran DX12 benchmark with no problem.

It's true that i observer few différences between DX11 & DX12 but DX12 is better by a few FPS compared to DX11.

Just thought I should add:

Got a GTX 980 ti and a Intel Xeon E3-1276 v3 in my system, and a SSD which the game resides on.

My game crashes when attempting to start a single player match (W10 /w DX12), if there are any other team color variation than blue and red. Which basically means, can't play any other game than 1v1.

Everything works fine with DX11, except if I save the game, which results in me gaining unlimited resources as well as being able to insta finnish production (both buildings and units alike).

The latest driver 355.82 brings a huge improvement.

I fixed my issue FYI by either a combo of the latest patch and or setting the actual dx12 exe in the steam folder to boot as administrator always

Just for the record my graphics card is a gtx 580 1.5 gb ram and it runs fine in dx12.  So the minimum requirements arnt absolute.

GTX 980 here. I get through the menus fine in DX12 but when I try to actually play a game it crashes hardcore - like, where my screen flickers off, my Nvidia software gives me popups that the graphics driver has crashed, and I have to pull up task manager and force close the program even though it doesn't show in my menu.

It runs like a dream on crazy in DX11 though.

Just thought I'd chime in here and say I'm also not getting the DX12 version to run, I just get the title screen come up and it saying "Initializing" followed by my desktop. This only started after the 16th of September update, a shame as I only purchased the game a few days before this and it loaded up fine then.

Anybody have any ideas?

Same issue for me, on my laptop. Has 12Gb Ram, 2gb GTX860m and the game loads to the start screen, then exits with no error to the desktop. The DX11 version of the game is ok...

Any updates for a fix yet?

Managed to get the launcher working by opening the executable directly from the steamapps folder, but still runs in DX11 mode?
