Unable to install Start8 on Windows 10
Start8 worked great on Windows 10 technical preview, but it's not allowing me to install it on windows 10? Am I really expected to pay for Start 10?

Start8 was developed for Windows 8 and unfortunately we're not able to support it on Windows 10.
You can also check your Start10 upgrade here: https://www.stardock.com/products/start10/download.asp#upgrade
I understand not being able to support it, but not allowing me to install it? It works fine when I upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 if I already have it installed, but when I go a clean install of Windows 10, I am then not able to install Start 8. I'm a little disappointed in stardock right now.
I was able to install it using compatibility mode.
Same here I have start 8 on windows 10 without any problems for 2 months now and now it comes to want an update and it says it is not compatible.. at a guess the installer is not compatible so you have to purchase start 10 which is a waste as it has a start menu anyway lol Come on stardock get you act together and make the installer compatible...
its a money grab. trying to force us to buy start 10 even though we bought start 8 which worked fine until that update. I will not be purchasing anything from stardock again.
Start8 does not work fine on Windows 10. There are numerous issues on that OS. For example the search field will overlap running apps / pinned apps in the taskbar

You could have 'fooled' me with that statement.
I've not had a single issue with Start8 on Windows10-64 since upgrading.
The only issue I'm currently experiencing, is no means of letting me update from V1.55 to V1.56.

The only issue I'm experiencing is Stardock's position of not producing the means to let me update from V1.55 to V1.56.
1) What colour is Start8 menu vs the rest of the OS
2) Look at the Modern Apps list. Notice any problems with any of them?
3) If you have the search field on the taskbar enabled it should be overlapping things
and that's just three issues.
I say class action lawsuit against the Stardock dullards. You developers clearly know nothing about the law.
The following quoted text below is what will display within Windows 10 while attempting to install Start8 version 1.56. All previous versions of Start8 version 1.50 - 1.55 have had no restrictive code within the application, therefore allowing a customer who purchased Start8 install it within Windows 10. Those customers who purchased Start8 are now being strong-armed (FORCED) into purchasing Start10.
I and other customers have had ZERO issues with the operation or installation of Start8 on Window 10 until 1.56. If customers want to continue to use Start8 on Windows 10, without the additional options (not features) included in Start10 , they have every legal right to do so.
You folks seem to be making up some very false information about how Start8 operates under Windows 10... when there are ZERO issues at all. If there are any issues, those issues would also be apparent within Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, not only Windows 10.
You are clearly implementing code into Start8 version 1.56 because you've discovered Start8 is FULLY FUNCTIONAL on Windows 10 and looking to profit off a simple line of code. Previous versions of Start8 v1.50 up to v1.55 have no issues installing or operation under Windows 10, it is not until version 1.56 that you've blatantly included code to restrict your Start8 customers from installing it onto Windows 10.
This applies to every single customer who's purchased Start8! If you folks had any kind of sense at all you'd develop a single Start menu application that would function under both Window 8 and Windows 10, NOT develop two separate applications and THEN restrict a latter application which provides the same functionality and completely functional within a new version of Windows. Just because you've not seen a HUGE significance in sales for Start10 and FINALLY realized Start8 is functional under Windows 10 does not provide you legal justification to block Start8 from actively being installed. It is NOT your customers failure that you've wasted countless hours on the development of a frankly useless update to something none of your customers like.
Good luck in court! A judge will not agree with your criminal and mindless methods!
Your last and final warning, fix it.
Ok so I was a bit annoyed at this same issue but threatening a class action lawsuit because of a $5 application is just silly. It is obvious that they are trying to force people to "upgrade" to start 10. I have start 8 installed upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10 and havent had any problems at all. The fact that it isnt the same color as the rest of the OS could not bother me in the least. Regardless, good luck funding your lawsuit. It would likely cost 10,000 times the cost of start 8/10.
Start8 is clearly not meant for Windows 10 as I discovered after my home PC was upgraded and sections of the taskbar no longer fitted and actually overlapped existing elements. Also the Start8 menu had no entry for the Settings app or the Universal apps.
Just because someone has not yet discovered any incompatibilities does not mean that you are being "forced" to upgrade. You can carry on using it as long as you don't try to re-install for any reason.
I do agree that threatening a class action suit over a $5 purchase ($3.99 upgrade) is idiotic.
Just my 2c.
