Receiving Spam from stardockentertainement.info

Stardock likely harvests Paypal email addresses without asking its customer.

Somehow Stardock got a hold of my work email address, perhaps it is when I used Paypal to purchase Galactic Civ III.

Now I already receive publicity on my yahoo email which is fine but I do not want any spam on my work email.   I have never given Stardock permission to use my work email.

When I click on the spam email to selection my subscription preferences, I see that I am not subscribed to anything according to that site however I'm still getting spam.

This is not acceptable, you should not harvest email addresses from paypal account.  You already have one of my email addresse I don't need you spamming my other email addresses.

The title of the spam I received today is: GalCiv III 1.2 Update PLUS New DLC Available Now

Stop spamming me.

I thought this must be a normal thing because I get emails all the time from Stardock and I do not have any boxes checked in my email preferences. I got one today as a matter of fact. It really does not bother me. I could mark it as spam but choose not to because I am afraid I will miss out on important future emails.

The funny thing is I am still waiting for the robo calls and spam from other sites such as PayPal which I have not even opt out of.

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Somehow Stardock got a hold of my work email address, perhaps it is when I used Paypal to purchase Galactic Civ III.

A possible reason, yes.

'I have never given Stardock permission to use my work email.

We have no idea what purpose an email is used for nor can we.  We do not seek initial 'permission' to send to any email address but would never do so if requested to stop via a formal request or by a client setting their preferences to not receive them.  We also only send them to people who have been in contact with Stardock in some fashion in the past.

When I click on the spam email to selection my subscription preferences, I see that I am not subscribed to anything according to that site however I'm still getting spam.

Is this the email associated with JacquesGauthier or the email you are posting about?  If it's the latter, that is the reason it does not sync with what you are seeing.

If you would, please email [email protected] with what email address you want removed and I will take care of it personally.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

When the software is purchased, there is an email field which is entered by the purchaser.

Afterwards, when you go to the login to paypal the paypal login suggests this email if I change the email at this point to login to paypal, this also changes the email I initially gave you for communications.  This is the problem.   My paypal login is different from the email I give you for communication.

When I change it to login to paypal I suspect the purchase order form also changes it.

That is a bug on your site.  You should keep the email that the customer initially gives you, not change it for the one that he gives you on paypal as it may be a different email (as it is in my case).  My paypal login email is not the one I want to receive emails on.

At the very least ask the customer if he wants to make this email change.

JacquesGauthier,

I worked your ticket and removed the email you submitted.

Again, we apologize for the frustration.
