To make allies or not?

Can someone tell me the pro vs. con of getting allies in the campaign at least..

 

I killed one of e'm and got a 16+ armor.. I thought that was pretty cool.. what would have happened if I let desert/magic peeps live? :)

 

If you could give me a breakdown for each ally.. appreciate it ;)

You can get a champion when ally with each race, hard to beat that.

As Heavenfall said, you can get a hero from each minor. Also, you can get units and resources from them as well.

Several of them will occasionally reduce the doomsday clock for you.

 I think if you declare war with a rival and defeat them you should at the very least get a hero.  Cause sometimes i'm not sure if I like my rivals.

I like to be allies and get there hero, THEN declare war and get their goodies }:)
