100 Factions?

What does 100 Factions mean? 

100 Major Factions?

100 Major Factions plus all minor factions?

89 Major Factions, plus all minor factions? (+/- 1 one major faction)

Right now I am not able to start a game with more than 89 major factions if I have all minor factions in the game.  I am able to go past this number if I reduce the number of minor factions.  So why is there not a warning message in the game telling the player that the game does not support this and not allow one to do it.  Instead the game allows you to select these and then crashes.

This was my understanding during development which could be completely off the wall but, was never really communicated exactly what 100 faction game really meant.  

100 Major Factions (1 human - 99 AI)

Minor Races don't count toward that number (again I may have always misunderstood).

Game would just not one allow you to add more than 100 races and stop you to attempt to do so.

Game would not crash up to that point. (and wouldn't crash after as you couldn't put more than that into the game).

So what is wrong here?  

My understanding on what 100 factions are?

No hard stop on game settings allowing one to pass the faction cap?

Game crashes after crossing the cap with no warning?

 

I apologize Stardock, however, this frustrates me, we are almost 2 months after release why was something like hard faction stops put into the game?  

 

Okay enough for the negative good work to this point :) Looking forward to providing additional feedback on game play.

Would you think the game would play differently with the extra 11 majors? In my games 16 factions on an Insane-loose clusters seem crowded. What is the average # of planets a faction can find/acquire in one of your games?

Just posted to your post, you play with rare usually, where I play as abundant, number of planets in my current game started in patch 1.1 is anywhere from 1-17 depending on starting location.  It appears they may have bumped the number of planets/stars a little as normally with 90 major races at the patch 1.03 settings it was on average of 5-8 planets per race.

well the game is supposed to be designed for 128 factions. It was tested on a large map with 100 factions can't remember if minors were in yet, but this isn't. The base game it would require resources what is your system.

your other point is valid the game should let you know if the computer can't. Handle it. Write it as a bug, so they will fix it next time.

try playing a smaller map, and see if that fixes it.

My system is better than yours...  I don't know that for sure ;) however, is better than most...

your system is fine. If we were going to nit pick 8 and cores are not as good as four Intel cores. Mine are fourth generation. I lose with onboard graphics. Mine is 46 something. With 16 gigs of ram. Ok you have a better system. Mine is 4th generation i7. Onboard graphics. 16 gigs of ram. I would like to know if excessive solves your problem.

They have to have a limit, as all things.  100 sounded good for marketing purposes.  To ensure the most people in the player base could play 100 factions due to their HW, they chose to take creative license on their original specifications and marketing.  Yes, 10 minors, 89 majors, and 1 human.

Yours is decent too :) No excessive had no change crash as soon as I clicked it, thanks for the suggestion.

Probably not, but that's not the point.  Seliore's point is >Game should play as advertized.   And the 'advertized' limits should be clear.

Most (including me) do not have systems that cope with anything near this mega game set up so maybe it has not received much SD attention. Then again how much attention does it need to clarify the design.   Funny thing, iirc, topic came up on a stream and SD was not sure if it was 100 or 128.

I think Seilores point was Derek Paxton did a 100 player game to show off what could be done with GC3 (which prompted me to buy a new comp and the game and probably persuaded Seilore and others to buy in at the Beta stage) and if I remember correctly it was him versus 100 but I don't know if he had minors on or not? This is probably another case of frogboy monkeying about with the mechanics behind Mormegeils back again as on the Dev streams paul gets asked questions about changes in gameplay that frogboy put in while he was on holiday which he wasn't told about? and whats his name has to tell him live on twitch.

That cursed game apparently doesn't want me to play it. I already have preplanned all 128 races with some more left out in the cold in what I would call "The Epic Game". I have patiently waited through all the fixes of this ridiciluos bugs they brought back right from GC2. I am still waiting for that crucial patch that should bring more customization to the custom races. And now yet another infernal setback!

Pity I am no Larsenex to "absolutely love" every abuse SD is doing with their game.  >_>

Mormegeil = Paul Bolyer and I forgot Adams name my bad.

I just Checked Dereks journal it was him vs 99 with no minors on a large map with everything on abundant on the Beta 2 patch as the Krynn had just been released.

Hey now. If there is a problem I will write up a detailed ticket and submit it. I know better than to come to the forums and rage about it. While I do love GC III and GC II, I am far more tolerant of game problems/functionality than the average Steam/Forum poster. Those folks make me not want to get out of bed the rage is soo bad. 

 

Back to topic, So the issue here is we get 89 factions and 11 minors not the 100 factions advertised? 

 

We will likely have to wait till next Friday to get a response on this issue. 

Indeed Seilore has a very good system, I will likely upgrade to the I7 5930K (6 cores and 12 threads) early next year if the price comes down. I am waiting to see some of the new processors that Intel is going to be showcasing soon. Also DDR4 + DX12+multi GPU = win in any gamers book!

Which is perfectly fine, everyone deserves vacation :)  I mainly am just looking for clarification on what the number is and why the game even allows you to go beyond whatever the hard number is. and if it's suppose to allow for 100 major races no matter the number of minors than why does it crash at this point?  Once I get clarification that this is a bug and not designed to crash at 100 or more (minor and major combined) then I'll submit a bug report.

Another reason why it's not coming up until now is prior to now it was difficult to get to 100 factions because no easy way to share.  Now with workshop in place it's easy to get there :)  They are going to see more of an issue after patch 1.1 release if there is not a hard limit in game preventing you from starting once you go over what the cap is or if the game is suppose to allow for more than 89 major races on why it's crashing...

Was 100 factions advertised, or 100 races?  As well, a minor could still be considered a faction, its just a minor one.

That's why I was trying to get clarification, no one really knows what that means and even that if that number is 100 or 128.  With that is there a hard warning message keeping the player from exceeding that cap whatever it may be.  Than with that why can't I exceed 99 players with minors (my lowest ranked faction is 99 [not 100]) Are pirates included if so that may account for why it stops at 99 for me as I have pirates enabled.  If there is a hard cap with warning than why are my games crashing on start at this point?

Lol no your posts aren't invisible... :P Derek did play on that as one example, mainly showing it worked, not answering all the other specific questions :(  So we basically know that you can play a game with 100 factions with no pirates or minor factions but, doesn't answer if you can play a game with 100 major factions plus minor factions or pirates and if there is a hard cap.

And here all this time I thought I was crashing due to low specs.(Surface).  Can play 89 factions but cant go above that on any sized map.  Thanks for bringing this up.

Correct about the minor races counting towards this CAP.  This the whole reason for the 64-bit design larger maps.
