Pragmatic V: Watchful no ships?

So I finally got Watchful after the launch. I did not see any Escort fighters in battles taking place within my zoc. I assume zoc are cultural borders? If not what is the zoc? And if zoc is cultural borders, anyone else having fighters escort ships? Or not?

Bumping. Nobody's using this pragmatic ability?

I might get there in my current game.  I know an earlier Pragmatic choice gives 3 ships to every planet (seems to be a random mix) and I've seen that in action.  But haven't gotten to the last one yet.

Bumping again. Would like to know if its working for you.

The actual bonus according to the xml and the description does not seem to match.

Looking at the xml you should get a single interceptor fighter per fleet. The interceptor fighter is defined for the standard races as a drone fighter, which means you must have both a beam weapon ('Weapons Systems') and a sub light engine ('Interstellar Travel') researched for them to show up - rather low techs, so this should not be a problem.

Furthermore the Zone Of Control is not your influence but the area (with a radius of like 5 tiles) around your planets and star bases.

So even if it works then a single tiny beam fighter in the fleet (during a battle) might not really be obvious.X|

I have not checked it myself, because i always found it a quite useless trait.

If all that is true then definitely a useless trait. Like everyone declaring war on your enemy if they invade your homeworld. Ty for the info.

Does this stack with Cautious, Pragmatic Vigilant IV, the 3 free ships?  My planets with the 3 free ships have not been attacked so can't verify.

I don't think it stacks in the way you're thinking. The 3 ships per planet just appear and you can decommission them or send them out like any other ship. They're not something added into a battle or become active when the planet is attacked, but otherwise non-existent.

I would like your source on this please as I've never heard of zone of control (ZOC) referred to as a separate entity versus area of influence (AOI).  Most of the time when ZOC is mentioned it is actually referring to AOI.  Some of the dev streams have corrected ZOC as AOI however, I've never seen anything which stated they were different.  Or seen anything.

To TheBirthdayParty I would like to see that question brought up to the devs in a dev stream or have one post to this topic.

Seilore,

I think Paul may have said something along the lines of it in a dev feed.

But I have observed this: In the turn notification list (right most tab, in the list panel on the right hand side of the main screen) you have an entry (when applicable) that states "There are x foreign ships in your territory without open borders permission". This notification is defined in the UIText.xml as the string for the ALERT_ForeignInZOC tag. Occasionally i see AI ships (of AI i don't have an open border agreement with) that are within my influence area but not near a star base or planet and those do not get selected when i cycle through the offending ships (by pressing repeatedly on the Goto button for the notification).

Assuming the ALERT_ForeignInZOC references the ZOC: The ZOC seems to be limited by both the area of influence and distance to planets/star bases. So either the ZOC is not equal to the ZOI (zone of Influence) or there is a bug in the Notification which indicates which ships are offending the ZOC.

One note is that all those ships that are not shown in the notification are outside sensor range of either planets or star bases, but are within sensor range of my ships. And i mean the sensor range of my ships at the beginning of the turn.

So it may be quite possible that the ZOC is the part of the ZOI that was covered by sensor range at the beginning of the turn. In which case it may be working as intended / designed.

Thanks TheCW,

I haven't heard that from anywhere and I was attempting to figure that out.  I wonder if having a sensor boat in your game would clear that up to see if the sensor range had something to do with what shows up?

I like your explanation :)

Necro but relevant - I'm not getting any ships from this trait either. Neither in my influence or 5 tiles away from my planets / starbases. Anyone else?
