Will space monsters eventually be added?

Since I began following this is EA I've been hoping something would be said about having space monsters as an eventual feature. It would seem that ship captains are coming soon, which I think might be made to work very well with space monsters as they would be something for captains to hunt and collect bounties on as quest rewards.

Mainly what I'm picturing here are enormous creatures along the lines of the ship-eating Budong from Farscape, the Crystal Entity from ST:NG that hovers over a planet and steals away some population... though ideally there would be a variety of sizes and behaviours. Lesser types could be free roaming in the early game, while others might be relatively passive and hide within nebulae and asteroid fields. If your civ posseses the right tech and ideology, they might even offer to join you.

Anyway, my first post here and just been wondering about these.

I don't believe they will though you could make a suggestion.

In the mean time enjoy this:

Space Monsters are on "The List" last I heard.  When/where/how they are implemented is still very much up in the air.

Cool idea! Wouldn't want to go overboard with this but could add another fun element to the galaxy.

Devstreams, mostly.  Pretty sure I heard it once again on one of the devstreams that went out during Release Week. Can't say for certain which one.  Brad's, maybe?  Derek's from yesterday?  Maybe the standard Paul one from Friday?  Someone with better memory than I can probably chime in who watches the streams. :)

Hmm, I have to actually watch the streams to get the information from them?

On a more serious note, will someone who does watch the streams say something pretty please?

You can talk to Ivanova about that policy if you don't. :P

Thanks for the replies.

That is hopeful then, if it has been mentioned by a dev. I seem to recall reading somewhere a long, long time ago someone mentioning that they were being considered, but I don't know where it was.

:)

Someone in the Steam forums in October said this regarding space monsters:

"Its been talked about in the dev streams but nothing certain yet. The Lead designer loves the concept though. "

So I guess it could be in one of the dev streams from around that time. If it's accurate and they do really like the idea, hopefully they will make it in someday!

You know it occurs to me you could mod space monsters in by changing pirates and making their shipyards look like monsters spawning other monsters.

But I believe they have discussed adding these in some DLC or as part of an expansion in the future on one of the dev streams to answer the OPs question, but no firm plans have been confirmed.

I have to answer that with, what I have answered above...

Weren't there space monsters in GC2?  I hated them because they had millions of hp, and killed my fleets all the time!  I wouldn't mind if they didn't show up until later in the game, or scaled up as the factions do.

No, they were in GC1.

Btw, is it Brad who is "lead designer" of GalCivIII? If so, then it would be great if he's the one who mentioned liking space monsters a lot in the stream.

Brad is the CEO of Stardock.  Paul Boyer is the Lead Designer of GC III (he's the one who is on almost all of the Friday GC III devchats).  But if Brad wants something in the game he can "discuss" it with Paul. ;)  What happens then is entierly up to them to explain. :p

Paul has said in his streams a few times they are adding monsters.

Still wondering about these. Sorry, I haven't really played the game much since purchasing because it just seems like it would be a much better experience after it has matured somewhat. However, I do recall buying some dlc a while back that added space monsters or some sort of "space monsters event" type of feature. Could someone please explain how these are implemented and what they are like?

Thanks

They are a random mega event. You get a message with what you want to do (no real effect aside from Ideology points) and they appear on the maps similar to pirates.

They are a random mega event.

To add a bit, they are from the Mega Events DLC.

Thanks for the replies. :)

I wonder if anyone has ever posted images of them anywhere. Haven't been able to find anything yet.

What kind of attack/defense do they have?

Their defense if spread across but they attack with mass drivers of sorts. Bring armor for monster hunting.
