Disappointed at the lack of female portraits

Rather disappointed at the lack of female portraits; there is really only the Altarian Resistance.  My daughter was excited to play the game, but after finding out she really only had one choice for portrait, not so much any more.

Hopefully this can be fixed in a future update, please remember girls play games too!

Good news!

The game supports custom races right out of the box. You can use any portrait image you want, including your own!

Now you don't have to pretend to be someone else. You can actually be the leader of your own new race.

I think the OP is a troll post.

Hate to say this but if a portrait keeps you from playing the game, then the game was probably not for you in the first place. You never heard tons of men complaining they could only be a woman character in Tomb Raider, Mertroid, etc.

There will be more portraits and logos, etc in the future.

One specific one is Jenna https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Jenna_Casey - she'll be in one of the future campaigns or scenarios. She was going to be in the release verseion, but delayed because they wanted to get her fully animated first.

Oh cool. I asked that but didn't have time to stick around for the answer.

Troll or not, it is actually a valid point.  The Stardock supplied art is of a quality that it should be possible for the artists to suggest a bit of gender besides Altairian and Humans.  It's very good art and I admire the skill and variety, but it does come off as a bit of a boy's club.  Obviously, it is not necessarily relevant for all factions, but for the human players involved, it sometimes makes a difference.  Hopefully there is more than just Jenna in the future, but I am real glad to hear she might come back.  (Being that fond of a game character suddenly strikes me as geekier than I care to admit.)

Bruce Jenner race incoming!

I don't really care an awful lot about what gender any new leaders are. I welcome new leaderheads, logos, backgrounds, color schemes, etc. so I can use all of them for custom races. :P

How do you know the other alien races and portraits aren't female?  Or even if the other species have a concept of 'male' and 'female'...?

Most of the aliens are female..

Only to the hypersensitive and those looking for things to get offended about. This must be another troll post.

It's obviously not a troll post. Be nice.

Don't be one of those people who call every post they don't like/disagree with "Troll posts".

You can add your own portraits. I have hundreds unused from civ2. The only thing that bugs me is the animations. They should add an "modder mode-no anims" state along the way.

Hi there.  As far as I know, I am not a troll.  You may know more about me than I do.  It is amazing how much people think they know about you on the Internet.

If you really wanted, I could discuss the point with you to whatever degree of thoroughness and courtesy you would wish.  It is fun to talk to people with differing opinions.  Mine are often strange and skewed, so I try not to criticize people for disagreeing with me.  In fact, I often encourage it.

However, it is unlikely that we would get far.  The issue seems to trigger over-reactions from all sides and there becomes too much side noise and yelling.

If you are really interested, we might exchange PMs or something, but other than making the point that some people do care about this, I am not sure I have anything else to prove or inform or contribute constructively.  I tried to make the point as gently and politely as I could.  I regret that you took it as a troll.  If you could offer a suggestion on how I would word things to make my point and not be a troll in your eyes, I would appreciate the constructive feedback.  If you are just name calling, then I apologize tor taking up so much un-needed text in the forum.  I don't know how to tell the difference from my end.

While I agree that models that are identifiably female among the base races is low (by my count 1 felmale, 5 male, 1 robot, 1 indeterminate), there are at least 3 portraits for custom races that appear to be distinctly female, and many more that have no obvious sex.

Heres an additional girl, you may have noticed her in the leader portraits, but she was lacking a FG image.

(This was the original Akari Malara before they redesigned her)
