Love the game but planetary invasion is a let down!!!

I'm a big fan of this game, in my opinion it has just gone from strength to strength throughout the development phase.

My only gripe is that the planetary invasion is a massive let down.

I was expecting so much, not because that's what I was told by the developers but because I thought it would just be a natural progression to be something better than Gal Civ 2.

its not exciting, there's no entertainment in it.

Is it going to get any better or am I just going to be stuck with a bland image of a transport and a load of text I have to decipher?

I agree, From the invasion screen it looks super lazy and not what should be in a 2015 game.

I would like to see a minigame type combat invasion similar to Imperium Galatica 2.  Make the invasion more immersive and give the player a chance to potentially win with fewer troops if played correctly.

At least it works now. There were major bugs in the beta, crashing the game. I'm sure it will evolve to something better, but it's never going be anything like tactical combat. That's not the scope of the GalCiv3.

The current invasion screen is a placeholder as the devs are working on a better version atm.

They pulled the Planetary Invasion at it was intended in beta 6 because it just wasn't that much fun. They are reworking it. It's not going to remain in it's current form. Whether this is a patch, dlc or expansion remains to be seen.

Man, even MoO2 had a better invasion screen, since at least you got to see some action. It didn't even have anything different for invasions either, just a choice of what type of invasion and then it's all numbers and seeing the results.

The one they had in beta was clumsy it also didn't make much sense, so they've removed it for now, they will be putting it back in at a later date

I said this in another thread, but yeah, there actually was a whole separate invasion screen that was sorta like a text-only version of the space combat viewer, so the framework for something awesome is totally there already. Unfortunately, at the time, it didn't actually DO anything, because the graphics weren't yet finished, so all it did was add a loading screen that made people crash all the freaking time. They cut it from the end of beta so they could fix and finish everything else, and considering how many crash bugs they fixed in that time, that was probably a good call.

I will say that the other one wasn't that much more exciting that this one... and it was causing crashes.

If somehow they they could animate it like the space battle viewer... now that would be something - though really complicated considering the different races.... and then you'd have to somehow generalize things for custom races.

Still, even watching something like pieces moving on a board... that would be a little more exciting.

I remember them saying in a dev stream during one of the earlier betas (when invasion was just a small popup window) that invasion was going to use the same battle viewer as the fleet combat.

As stated before what we have in Planetary Invasion is temporary. This along with bugs and modding tools are at the top of the to do list. I would expect to see this in a patch in about a month or so.

In the mean time it is working. You can be defeated. I tend to max out my transports just to make sure Ill take the damn planet. Compared to GCII I thin it looks better even with only a splash screen that we get.

I also think we should get the 'invasion' video AFTER we successfully take a planet and not when we build our first transport.
