AI rushing shipyards

That's not unusual for the AI. The problem is they don't have the BC to do that. I was watching a soak game and caught them red handed rushing a ship yard when they had less than 400 BC and there was no reduction in BC when they did it. The game was set to normal difficulty.

Apparently you can't save a game that is on soak, but I assume it can be easily duplicated.

sorry, but what is a soak game?

It is a cheat code that plays the game with all AI.

Did the AI you were watching have the colonizers trait?  I'm watching a soak now and I think that's why its rushing a shipyard for every planet and they really shouldn't be able to do that.

It was a custom faction and yes they had that trait. You might as well say they are getting a free shipyard since the rush cost them nothing. :)

Same here, started a soak to watch AI behavior with my custom faction with colonizer and when I say a rushed shipyard thought of this thread.  I had tried to rush soil enhancement and it doesn't work but hadn't thought to try with a shipyard.  I don't think that should be allowed with the colonizer trait.

Thanks!

Well, we sure can't do it. I checked on the rush price of a shipyard playing with the same faction and it was several thousand BC. If the AI can do it it must be a bug

I am going to move this to support in case they want to take a look at it.

The recent changes to the shipyard cost make this a more serious issue.  I'm not sure why anyone would even build one unless they didn't have one.  It seems better to build a constructor and then have it build a shipyard instead...much cheaper.  I'd like to know more about this change.

I am very suspicious about soak.  Yeah I have tried it several times, why not.    But I have this feeling things don't really work the same.   Maybe I am just guessing?   What I am trying to say is there is more than one reason they advertise that they don't want data where console commands have been used.

Yeah, I know, I am stumbling around in the dark again.  But hey, a random drunk will often make progress in their walk, right?

I am open to this and all the devs need to do is say that it is a soak thing and that will satisfy me.

Since the price of a shipyard is now 10X what it was, I would like to know if the AI is getting them free. :)

I had assumed the price increase was to slow down the AI from spamming shipyards. If not that then why?

Just looked at an AI planet that was colonized early game.  Shipyard is first building queued (Iconian).  32 turns to build.

Now I know why the AI is doing so poorly against me.
