Would like to see a little more technical gameplay.

The ships just shoot at each other without any interaction, no weapon facings, or ship crews, planetary invasion essentially is just a bunch of "dots" to overcome...

 

Would love to see some of the game a little bit less abstract and see more "space opera" employed.

Like knowing there's a Transport in orbit and knowing there's 5,000,000 troops with plasma weapons and heavy armor in orbit are completely different things in the storyline of your game.

 

I get there's a lot of fanboys on, however, if noone ever questions you, and everyone is just kissing your ass constantly - you kind of end up like George Bush Jr.

Concur with planatary invasion.  MOO2 has the best planatary invasion where you would see actual troops shooting at each other.  If you researched battleoids, you would see them fight, etc.  My dream would be that when you invade a planet, you see your civs soldiers against the other civs soldiers with appropriate tech.  For example, if you researched space marines, your troops would be in cool looking power armor charging at those weak Thalin or whatever.  So an enhanced MOO2 style would be my preference.

Obviosely, with custom civs, you would have to choose one of the standard civs to represent your custom civ on the battlefield unless you modded the heck out of the game.  I never understood why we have these grand space battles where you see the precise ship you customized but then planatary invasions are just generic with no indication of your race and the method employed.

I, too, find the randomly spinning ships to be somewhat distracting.

Yeah this was my thought also - to have a planetary invasion screen similar to the ships fighting. Tanks, Armies, shooting upgraded weaponry, having armor/shields/stealth tech perhaps, and doing something more in-depth with planetary buildings and armies on planets.

 

This would give that "epic" Dune-style space opera feel to the game.

 

Right now, just way too abstract.
