Hey guys, got a question about being overwhelmed.

Started playing Rebellion recently, got it for the Armada mod, but that kept crashing and I got addicted to the regular game. I'm on a huge map and one galaxy is run by me. My ally in another galaxy kept needing my help, but I was busy locking down my own galaxy. I'm playing as the Advent Rebels, I think. I have deliverance engines, if that tells you. Anyway, my ally is gone now, and the faction I was so desperately fighting on my own turf is now an ally. I'm in my former ally's galaxy trying to overthrow the power that killed them, the Nitheim Rebels. I finally locked down four planets in their quadrant, but they build fast and they have a cannon that does massive damage to planets (novalith, I think). I've had just these four planets for a while and have nearly my entire armada there. I have all research done including logistics, and despite having a level 10 titan, the rest of the command slots filled with capital ships, and the rest filled with the one cruiser that's strong against units and the star ones that are good for structures, their seemingly endless fleet and that damnable Titan they build and somehow get it to level 10 very quickly always wipe me out. Any advice? I have all my deliverance engines built, and I've asked my ally to destroy ships and structures, but they don't do much despite sending a massive fleet from their own galaxy. When I loaded it earlier, I did notice about 30-40 more cruisers in my galaxy, but don't know if it'll be enough. Only way I can drive their armada back is on my turf with repair platforms and that temple that repairs shields thanks to my research. What do you guys think I should do?

Also, why can't I put a bounty on these rebels even though my allies can? The only factions I was able to put a bounty on became my allies and now one is defunct.

One last question. I'm assuming I need to watch my allies very closely. I suspect treachery because they've built those huge starbases in my gravity wells in MY galaxy. Guess I should do the same in case things go south, huh?

I can't believe how awesome this game is, but my god is it challenging.

Sounds like you are one of the Advent factions, yes. We'd need to know the name of your titan to be sure its the Rebels.

You can counter the Novalith Cannon by building a Starbase at the planets you're trying to use as a beachhead, then building the "Enduring Devotion" (I think that's the name) upgrade. It prevents the loss of the planet from bombardment, including Novalith cannon attacks. It will still damage the planet and kill the population, but you won't lose control, allowing you to build up factories and things that you really want for this situation. For future reference, this upgrade is usually called by the TEC equivalent upgrade, Auxillary Government (most people start with TEC factions first, so for things all three factions have, we tend to refer to them by the TEC name).

It sounds like your enemies are the TEC Rebels, since they are the only faction that can make peace with the pirates (hence you can't put bounty on them anymore, as they pirates will never attack them). If other players put bounty on that player, it was either before they researched the ability to ally with the pirates, or its from an automated source (Advent players can research an upgrade that puts bounty on players who destroy their trade ships).

Their titan can indeed do a lot of damage (that's all its good for), and against any titan it's preferable to kill it before it gets to level 10 (though your ally who died probably did that one). Best you can do is try to separate it from its defense and large fleet, then attack it with your titan, a bunch of high level capitalships (the Radiance Battleship is good for taking out titans thanks to its detonate antimatter ability. It drains antimatter and damages the titan, and no antimatter means it can't use its special abilities) and a large group of Corvettes and Bombers (the Titan's special abilities cannot damage these units, only its regular weapons can).

The AI doesn't really intentionally try to backstab you. It is possible for an alliance to stop if you let relations with an ally fall to far, but as long as you have a few envoy cruisers at their planets this should never happen (and so long as you're killing ships they're also enemies with, even that shouldn't be necessary). The only exception to this is if you didn't turn on allied victory when the game started. Without this setting only one player can win the game, so when you only have allies left they have to turn on you. I always leave this setting on.

That said, starbasing your allies then betraying them is a totally valid tactic for you, especially if you didn't turn on that allied victory thing and you know its going to happen anyways. Even if it doesn't come to that, it is not unusually for either the AI or other human allies to starbase your planets if its an important choke point. After all, two starbases are much harder to deal with than one.

While its probably good you started with the base game first, you shouldn't give up on mods for later on (full disclosure, I'm a modder). Chances are Armada 3 is dumping because you didn't apply the Large Address Aware (LAA) patch as instructed. Very large total conversion mods like STA 3 and a few others need this to ensure the game can use enough RAM, since they add so much stuff to it.

Glad you're enjoying the game and welcome to the forums.

Appreciate it. I found out my issue was that I had the research that spawns some destroyed ships at the capital planet and I had like 30 cruisers back there. I ended up beating the game. When I saw them break the alliance, I was thinking that the programmers were more genius than I thought and had actually put treachery into the enemy AI where they build bases and turn on you. Not saying they're not geniuses, because my god, this game is perfection. Turns out it was because I turned diplomacy wins off and I didn't realize destroying a capital planet took an AI out of the game. Does that go both ways? Like if I have control of three galaxies and my capital planet gets taken out, do I lose?

The only issue I have with this game is a little lag with big fleets. I'm not sure if it's my computer or the game. I saw a couple others having an issue with it. Other than that, buttery smooth, I especially like the mouse controls. Here are my specs, is it me or the game?

Also, as far as the Armada mod goes, I got it installed and used the Large Address thing and checked the "allow to use more than 4GB" thing. Followed the instructions to the letter. It played for a few minutes, then crashed and the game wouldn't load. I had to disable it from the text file in the mod folder. I would love to get it fixed as that's the reason I got this game to begin with.

I may try other mods soon as well, but I'm taking a break since I have spent over 40 hours playing it since the 20th and that's time I could have spent learning stuff. I felt guilty about it.

Yup, you were Advent Rebels then. Yeah, bringing ships back from the death is really nice, but on those large multistar maps its a bit of a pain to get them from your homeworld to the front lines.

Taking out capital planets only kill a player if you turned on the capital victory condition in the options (same place where the allied victory option is). I usually have it on as its nice to have a way to hurry up and finish a game, and usually losing your homeworld means game over anyways. If you didn't change the default conditions (nothing on), then what happened is that the AI probably surrendered. Just like you can rage quit a game if you're clearly losing, the AI will occasional do this to. It's honestly pretty inconsistent on whether, or if, it ever surrenders, so if you don't want to risk having to nuke every last enemy planet, I would play with at least one other victory condition on.

It's probably inevitable, especially on multistar maps. Chances are it was your CPU getting overwhelmed. Basically Sins is not a multicore game, so it can only use one core of your nice quad core there. Unless you have some way to boost CPU speeds (some don't go to max unless you set a setting) or are comfortable overclocking, you'll just probably have to live with some lag. Some mods also try to reduce the problem by reducing the number of mines/fighters/trade ships on the map. Less objects to keep track of means less work for the CPU.

Huh, well you'll have to ask them for support then. They have a thread here on the forums in the modding section, or you can ask on their Moddb profile.
