Ships fire weapons in random directions beta 4

When my fleet attacks a starbase, sometimes my missiles and/or kinetic weapons are fired off in a random 360 degree direction as displayed in the battle viewer.  They seem to register correctly as hit/miss on target despite being shown going away from it.

"Oops, I fired the missile out the wrong end again, sorry about that."

I've seen this happen with beam weapons as well.

Those are your 'misses'. I found after reviewing my battles, my misses went WIDE and i was like..what the hell?

Also if the enemy has a Jammer you will miss 'a lot'..

There are a lot of bugs in the fight viewer.  It was not ready for release.  Stardock should get an F for this "beta" it's much closer to alpha.

LOL, Ayork, You are pretty funny. Its your opinion and truthfully you are very wrong and the consensus here on the forums proves it.

In which case you purchased a game in Beta State and got it cheaper than the release at gold. Just shelve the game and pull it out when it goes gold. Problem solved.

Prototype =  Pre-release Basic game, place holder graphics, only partially playable.  Potentially many bugs or issues.

Alpha = Pre-release Basic game, more game graphics in, a lot of the functionality of the game is in.  Potentially many bugs or issues.

Beta = Pre-release Basic game, most major features are in, working out bugs and issues.  (This is where the game is currently)

  • Beta's by definition will have bugs and issues with it as it tests playability.  (Feedback is assumed.)
  • Looks for user feedback to help get the game ready for full release.  (Feedback is looked for.)

Full Release (Gold) = Actual game, no longer testing.  Game should be ready for everyone to play with very little or no issues.

  • This is anticipated for release in Spring of 2015 based on the most recent update of the schedule, however, is possible to change.
  • Full release appears to be what you're expecting so as Larsenex stated, maybe if you weren't looking to beta test hold off for a few months.  :)

Yea but an A for effort  .  Actually its been well known from the start that the classical definitions of alpha /beta don't apply.  I agree, in those terms GC3 fits closer to an alpha but the whole purpose is to generate feedback, ideas, ... in addition to bug identification.

It is not just my "misses", at least i do not think so and here's why: I have seen fights where 99% (some really high number) of my shots were going off in a random direction yet i was scoring many hits.  At times it looked like shots were wrapping around the screen and hitting the target.

it was my understanding that galciv was going more with the classical definitions of alpha/beta.

rather then the contemporary definitions where beta would be merely considered early access before a head developer walks off forcing the company to rewrite major sections of the game storyline .. i could tell you about it but i dont even have time to explain why i dont have time to explain.

No need to name call or troll.

The battle viewer needs serious work.  It was even mentioned in the dev stream.  That along with the influence issue makes me believe Beta 4 was released prematurely.  I would rather have Beta 3 back.  At least the game was more playable.  You didn't worry about wholly owned system all of a sudden defecting because you chose an influence bonus which gets applied as a penalty.  Having the Beta released before that was fixed so I can watch a missile animation imply my ship shot itself isn't worth it.

Good care should be taken to make each Beta release better than the previous.  I will accept new bugs, but I do not like seeing things which were working break.

Ayork, I apologize.

I just cant stand the posts that say, 'This isn't a beta and should never have been released.  Its all opinion and there is a 1500+ page on Steam to review on this very topic.

Bottom line. For me the Battle viewer is fine for its first release. I brings our game up to 'Gamma'...lol..(Ceta?)..in any event we are that much closer as promised to Gold release.

Immense will feel much better with more races and Minors added.

1) there is no official definition of alpha or beta. Because of the recent increase in open betas and early access many companies in recent years have upped the standards of what they call beta in order to avoid bad pre-release press. Often what companies call betas are games essentially ready for release with just a few bugs and balance issues. This has raised player standards for the condition a game is in when it is called a beta. Really, all beta means is "not done yet." This not really relevant, but the Best Buy commercials badly misuse the term "beta test" and it really annoys me.

2) Stardock is fully aware that the state the viewer is in is not acceptable for a game in its final state. They are constantly reiterating that it is not a finished product. That's why they delayed it from Beta 3 and I suspect they would have liked to hold it back a bit longer but wanted to appease their fans who had been asking to see it.

Thank you stardock for releasing the battle viewer, even if it is not finished.  This has been a fantastic journey as stardock and the community build the game.  Too bad for those who don't have patience.  I wanted to be part of the building process, so thank you for the opportunity.

Have you played many alphas?  With a typical alpha you're lucky to even get completed graphics.  GC3 is definitely a beta.

Thanks Larsenex.

I am very pleased that Stardock has quickly patched this release.  Hopefully the next patch releases soon.  I would like to see the Influence Rift of Doom issue fixed soon.

Thanks to Stardock for the quick patch of the Beta 4.  That was unexpected.  I am very impressed.
