v0.0.3916 Change Notes

Greetings,

Mohawk has posted up a new version of Offworld Trading Company for Founders today with the following build highlights:

  • Players no longer acquire patents on buyouts
  • When constructing a building, lines will be drawn on the map showing the best 3 places (per resource) to place the building. Please give us feedback on this feature!
  • Terrain appearance (shaders and textures) has been updated
  • Game options menu, currently just containing graphics quality and audio mute options, is now available off the main menu
  • Auto-sell has been removed for all resources except for Power
  • Scientific colonies need to spend less to repair buildings, and buildings repair faster
  • Goon Squad defends against Power Surge and EMP, even if its tile is not targeted

Thank you for posting major changes. Please continue to do this in the future if possible.

What happens to the patents? Can they be researched again?

I look forward to testing the changes.

Regarding resource lines: The feature is ok. It helped show good resources that were off in the distance. When building elementary quarries, it was a bit of a distraction with so many lines going off in directions, especially when selecting the quarry for a specific element.  I didn't really use the feature to often because most of the time I already had picked what I was building and where I was planning on building it.

I'm not a huge fan of this addition. Despite the player still deciding what to build, it's too close to playing the game for the player. I can see how its a useful feature for newer players, I find it detracts from the importance of the map itself. Since the map is overshadowed by the resource interface, anything that makes the map less important is probably not a good thing. Also, during each game, there are so few claim/building decisions that have to be made.  Players should be paying attention to which resources are available on the map, where they are located, and if they are still available instead of being guided to decisions because each decision made is crucial.
