Can I still update GalCiv II?
I have the original GalCiz II. No expansion packs or any of that. Well I just put the game on a computer that can go online and tried to update it, but couldn't get it to work. Any ideas?

You can register retail copies here if you haven't previously and download the latest version here after doing so (or if you already did years ago). If you registered it in the past, make sure to log in with the same account; [email protected] can help track it down if you've lost it.
Edit: I tried but it said there was an error with the serial number. I double check and I got it right. Don't know why it didn't work.
Edit (again): It worked. It's registered.
Ok. I've run into a problem with the install. I unzipped the file but now I'm stuck. Where are the unzipped files and how do I get them into the game?
The store page has the full game, not patch files. It should have just unpacked a GalCiv2 folder with the whole game in the same location as you downloaded the package at, unless you specified a different place.
I found out that it never asked me to replace the old files when I told it to extract the new files from the update's file, but when I opened the game it still says it's v1.0. Am I missing a step? I know when is extracts the files it asks if I want to replace the old file with the new one, not replace the old file with the new file, or "rename file." Any clue what this is?
You don't update anything. The whole final version of the game is in the package from the store downloads page. I suspect the prompt you got when doing it again was just due to extracting it in the same location as you did the first time.
You can just run the copy you extracted in the location you extracted it, and toss your old copy.
That is correct. We don't provide patch files, just the whole latest version of the game. That is why it was 1.18GB.

You shouldn't need to unzip it again--just make sure you run the copy you unzipped (go to where you unzipped it--any shortcuts you had to run the game will still point at the old copy unless you update those yourself). You can move those files and delete the old ones as you like once you've figured it all out.
