Full Circle
Album: Company B
Year: 1987
Lori L. wants to date her crush in the crowded “Full Circle.”
An ornery keyboard opens the single and then joined by circling synths, setting a haphazard tone. He tells her he has something to ask her later and if he could meet up with her. She grins and replies sure. This is it. This the moment she’s been waiting for. He always remembers to open doors for her and looks out for her. He’s an incredible guy. She has made certain to be around whenever she can, letting him know her feelings for him. (“I've got a love for you, just tell me you want it/I've got a kiss for you, put your lips on it/You've been so good to me, and baby, I'm ready/I gotta keep close to you and keep really steady, steady.”)
Meanwhile, synths spiral, likely into a drain.
In the chorus, all the flirtation and meaningful looks have lead up to something real. (“You know I want you, boy/Let me be your baby/I wanna full circle with you tonight (I wanna)/Full circle, you're the one I love/Full circle with you tonight (I wanna)/Full circle, you're the one I love/Full circle with you tonight (I wanna)/Full circle, you're the one I love/Full circle with you tonight (I wanna)/Full circle, you're the one I love/I wanna.”)
A record scratches back and forth as the synths spiral downward yet again.
She wants to spend time with him at parties. They’ll dance and laugh, enjoying every minute of their youth. (“I want to dance with you, body to body/I want to stay with you 'til the end of party/You've been so good to me and, baby, I'm ready/I gotta keep close to you and keep really steady, steady.”)
The chorus is sung twice to end the single.
Lori L’s presumptous vocals assume it’s going to happen. Of course it is. She has it planned it out in her head. He knows exactly what he will say. It’s going to hit her hard when he says he thinks of her like a sister.
The curdled “Full Circle” should serve a lesson that synths shouldn’t resemble anything like a toliet.
