Music Review: Beyonce "Partition"
Beyonce
Partition
Album: Beyonce
Year: 2014
Beyonce has hot married sex in a limo in the kinetic “Partition.”
A male voice yells “drums” as a slinky synths open the single, setting a blazing tone. Her husband whispers in her ear that he’s ready. She tells their driver to if they could have some privacy. He pushes the button and the partition goes up. She unzips his jeans and he spreads his legs. Streaks of mascara run in various lines down her face. Her once red lips are bare with any color around her mouth. Hair and makeup alone was twenty minutes. The other twenty minutes she spent putting her outfit together, However, he tore open her blouse and left a stain on her dress. (“Driver, roll up the partition, please/Driver, roll up the partition, please/I don't need you seeing 'Yonce on her knees/Took 45 minutes to get all dressed up/We ain't even gonna make it to this club/Now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged/Oh he so horny, yeah he want to fuck/He popped all my buttons, and he ripped my blouse/He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown.”)
In the pre-chorus, she checks one of the cabinets for a towel to clean the seat up. However, she finds nothing. He must’ve forgot it. They are going to have to go home. (“Oh there daddy, daddy didn’t bring the towel/Oh baby baby we betta slow it down/Took 45 minutes to get all dressed up/We ain't even gonna make it to this club.”)
In the chorus, she says she simply wants to please him. She loves being his wife and his only one. (“Take all of me/I just wanna be the girl you like, girl you like/The kind of girl you like, girl you like/Take all of me/I just wanna be the girl you like, girl you like/The kinda girl you like/Is right here with me.”)
She wears his jacket to cover herself. He makes sure his belt his buckled and his shirt is tucked inside his pants. A quck blast of light caught her attention. She intercoms their driver and tells him to pull the partition back up. She can see a video appearing online. (“Driver, roll up the partition fast/Driver, roll up the partition fast/Over there I swear I saw them cameras flash/Handprints and footprints on my glass/Handprints and good grips all on my ass/Private show with the music blasting/He like to call me Peaches when we get this nasty/Red wine drip, we’ll talk that trash/Chauffeur eavesdropping trying not to crash.”)
In the second pre-hook, she notices the arm of her fur is hanging by on seam. Her hair has begun to frizz. (“Oh there daddy, daddy now you ripped my fur/Oh baby baby be sweating out my hair/Took 45 minutes to get all dressed up/We ain't even gonna make it to this club.”)
The chorus is sung again.
A female voice says in French, according to Google translation: “Do you like sex? Sex, I mean physical activity, do you like it? You’re not interested in sex? Men think feminists hate sex but it is a very challenging and natural activity that women love?”
The drums climb up the notes.
The chorus is sung again to end the single.
Beyonce’s unhibited vocals roll and sway on the seat of the limo, soaked with sweat. She’s fully in charge. She’s the one who began kissing him and got him aroused. She’s the one telling the driver to they have go home.
The bridge, though, is brilliant. Intellectual curiousity is required. Otherwise, the entire point is missed. Madonna may have introduced the concept of feminism to the mainstream. It’s Beyonce, though, who is owning it and trying to take back the word. She is making it okay to use and say. Given her influence, she should be applauded for it.
The unapologetic “Partition” thoroughly enjoys its sexuality.
