[Feature request] Exempt specific building from auto upgrade

When you build a cluster of improvements it is advantageous to maximize the adjacency bonuses, however not always is a desired building available yet.

Lets say i want to build a manufacturing cluster of a ring of production plants around a fusion plant (or "Manufacturing Capital" / "Singularity Plant"), but the fusion plant has not been research yet. I can either:

  • Build the ring and leave the center open. But this losses a lot of adjacency bonus levels.
  • Build the ring and build a production plant in the middle and destroy/replace it later with the fusion plant. But the auto upgrade will upgrade the center production building, thereby wasting production (and therefor timely notification that the planet production is idle).
  • Play with auto upgrade off. But that means: Lots and lots of manual checking and issuing build orders.

If possible i would like to be able to build the center production building for the adjacency bonuses, but to tag it to exempt it from auto upgrade. I envision something like placing a "Do not upgrade" icon over that specific building.

I support this. I'd love just a little auto-upgrade check-box in the the corner of the icon on the map that I could check/un-check to get the flow of production I want.

+1  There are lots of examples of putting up a temp building until something else is researched.  the difference between an empty spot and the first tier production/research/market building is huge over the number of turns until you get to an upper tier "hub" building like a capital.

Would be complicated, I think.

Why just no autoupgrade, and upgrade manually what you really want to be upgraded ?

You do know you can do this now, right?  It an all or nothing toggle per planet

No, that requires way too much micro-management.

You WANT the other buildings in the circle to auto-upgrade, because they will remain. The building in the center you DON'T want, though.

 

Another example for me is the Colony Hospital.  Many times, I don't want to upgrade it to a Medical Center, because the time it takes to do so is time I could be having the planet do other things (and, I've already grown to the max the planet pop will go by then).  I'd like to mark just that building for NO UPGRADE, while having the rest of the planet always update.

I'd be happy if, when I go to a planet, cancel a upgrade on a building, it just DIDN'T UPGRADE that building. But nooooooo, next turn, it will automatically try to upgrade it again.
