I Luh Ya Papi
Album: A.K.A.
Year: 2014
Jennifer Lopez likes taking care of her boyfriend in the uncertain “I Luh Ya Papi.”
Rubbery synths slide back and forth, setting a Part of the chorus opens the single. She says she will sleep with him anytime he wants. The car isn’t the most comfortable place but she’ll deal with it a couple back pains here and there. He cares for her and that is the only reason she does it. (“I put it down for a brother like you/Give it to you right in the car, that's you/We can first give you some of this, that's you/And you’re all out loving that JLove true.”)
She wants to look pretty for him. She puts her in a high ponytail and add some clips to it. She has to think of his opinion all the time. He’s her priority. She keeps tabs on her diet, maintaining her slender figure for him. She checks the scale every day and if she’s a couple pounds over, she gets her journal out and starts logging in every calorie. All the sweet things he says to her is motivation for her. (“Hold up, I can get you fun up/Pull your trigger, go and get your gun up/I'mma tie my hair up top/Put a pin in it, now I'm ready, let it rock/Keep it number 1, that's easy mathematics/Keep it number 1, baby, ain't no static/Got that hourglass for you, baby, look at these legs/No brakes, go green, no red/If you wanna kill the body, gotta start with the head/Put it on you, I'mma need about 4-5 beds/Cause I love my papi.”)
In the pre-chorus, she realizes she how much she adores him. He’s the nicest guy she’s dated in a long time. (“I didn't see it, but I see it now/Think I love you, and I need you know/Ain't had none like you in a while.”)
In the chorus, she has changed her Facebook name to Mrs. PapiLuv. She brags about him at work. (“I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/Yeah, that my papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/ I put it down for a brother like you/Give it to you right in the car, that's you/We can first give you some of this, that's you/And you’re all out loving that JLove true.”)
She thinks of him constantly. Is he eating lunch? Is he out running errands? She yells out his name to just hear it and grins to herself. He is just so awesome and she’s going to marry him someday. (“All day, 24 hour/Feeling like I want one when it's crowded/If you wanna hear your name, I shout it/Boy, you the shit, go and take a power shower/And I'm feeling like it's me and you, I don't doubt it/You can drive it how you want, I ain’t trying to count mileage/I'm loving me some you/Started from the bottom, baby, then we went roof/Cause I love my papi.”)
The pre-chorus is sung again.
A second chorus is sung. (“I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/Yeah, that my papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/I luh ya papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi/Yeah, that my papi/I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi.”)
In the bridge, French Montana says she’s his schmoopy. She gives really good oral sex which is one of her good qualities. He doesn’t care if people think they make a cute couple or if they annoy people. They have the money to do whatever they want. (“I love you, mami, I-I love you, mami/Baby, you the shit, I-I love you, mami/Shorty got me catching feelings/And that rave drop reaching for the ceiling/Southside Bronx, Teterboro just overseas/Take the pants out here, drop to her knees/Oh my, I'm a don like Omar/Speed it up slow ma, throw it back, toma/Rock-rock Gators like my Detroit players/You can hate to love us, you can love to hate us/From the bottom it been real/From the bottom shorty been trill/And even though we made it to the top/Still J.Lo from the-the the block/Ey, I love you, mami, I love you, mami/Baby, you the shit, I-I love you, mami.”)
She says she thinks he’s a great guy and they have a solid relationship. She has known him since they were kids. Dating was the next logical step. (“I think I love just who you are/We haven't grown apart, this is just the start/Where life begin all the way to the end/And we started as friends, boy I do love.”)
The second chorus is sung again to end the single.
Lopez’s cutesy vocals preen, angling for his attention at every moment. She overshares with everyone (family, friends, co-workers) about how great their sex lives are. Her relationship determines her own self-worth.
Montana’s complacent rap applauds himself for getting into such a great situation. All he has to do is parrot back everything she has said. He doesn’t have to do nothing in the relationship. She expects to him show up and that’s fine with him.
The anxious “I Luh Ya Papi” are the couple often seen at the amusement parks, making out while waiting in line and all over each other.
