Explorer.exe

Explorer.exe

I'm getting multiple instances of explorer.exe which is shooting up my CPU to 50-75%.  Does anybody know what is causing this?  Thanks.

Given the number of people google finds experiencing this problem I find it unlikely that WB is the cause.  But just in case, where can I find the 8/1 version?  Its it still available for download?

Who said WB was the cause?

In my case, Deskscapes 8.20 is the cause. Deskscapes 8.10 does not cause the multiple explorer.exes.

If you're savvy about your PC and your software, you'll have kept the archived versions of all your Stardock software. ODM, and SDC both have a default save directory. Older versions would be there. On your PC.

I usually save only the most recent version although I have oler versions of some of the installations.  Not however, WB.  Maybe a support ticket can resurrect a copy for my use.

How do I revert back to 8.10?

Deregister 8.20. Uninstall it. Reboot. Install 8.10. You should have it if you install things with ObjectDesktop Manager. It auto archives for you.

I keep older copies of everything SD. Anyone who has been a Stardock/Wincustomize customer for any length of time should know to do that.

I just opened ODM and it says I'm running WB 8.07 and doesn't indicate a newer version is available???   :annoyed:    Nevermind..  You said Deskscapes, not WB.

Yes, Deskscapes. Not WB. WB wasn't the cause of the multiple Explorer.exe issue.

So, we're just stuck then.

Bump.

I finally fixed my issue by not loading the DeskScapes service at boot time.  Doesn't seem to stop dreams from starting so all is well.   I did not have to rllback to an earlier version.

gevansmd - What you did for a work around, this stopped multiple explorer.exe processes from happening?

Yes.  For a few seconds after closing explorer windows there are extra still running but using 0% of CPU.  They shortly go away.

This is the normal expected process. Sweet. Care to share how to do the workaround?

Wait....I just showed my ignorance, did I not?

Not true.  They do not go away.  How does this get fixed?

When the issue isn't present, they DO go away. That is the way it is SUPPOSED to work.

If you're not seeing that, then you have the issue. I have the issue if I run Deskscapes 8.20.  I have to use Deskscapes 8.10.

The problem went away for me when I used msconfig to remove the DeskScapes service from the list of services run at boot time.  It still starts the dream at automatically when Windows loads but no more explorer processes chewing up 100% of cpu.

That's ok Jim.  Remember I was the guy who read your suggestion about rolling back DeskScapes and then looked at what version of WindowBlinds I was using.   :')

No, it hasn't been fixed.

I get this problem only with Windows 7. When I used the latest version of Deskscapes (8.21.0) with Windows 8.1 , there was no multiple instances of explorer.exe ... Stardock should fix this bug asap :) btw , will anybody suggest me a way to get Deskscapes 8.10  :D I bought Object Desktop Infinite last month and don't have the old versions .. :(

koushikdragoon - The latest build, 8.21, is supposed to fix the multiple explorer.exe issue. But on your Win 7 box you say it's still doing it? I've created a ticket for you, you should receive an email shortly.

Have you tried what I write above:
