Caught In A Moment

Album: Three

Year: 2004

An emotional rush overtakes Keisha Buchanan when she’s around her boyfriend in the pedestrian “Caught In A Moment.”

An intense piano and an enravished orchestral arrangement open the single, setting a slavish tone. Her puts both of his hands on her face and lifts her chin towards him. He gazes into her eyes, studying with fascination. The power of his emotions stuns her.  He could ask her to move to another country, say goodbye to her life here and she would gladly oblige him. She only wants to be with him. He has broken any free will she has. (“Your stare swallows me/And I can hardly breathe/I feel it's dangerous/Could be deadly/Somehow I'm willing/To do the things you want/Take me in your arms/Spoon feed my heart and.”)

In the pre-chorus, he can say anything to her and she will believe it. It is now she how she truly feels about him. (“Drip by drip/I'll take it all/Sip by sip/I guess that it's/Make or break/Boy here and now.”)

In the chorus, she says they are experiencing important together. For the minute or so, they are the only two in the room. (“We're caught in a moment/And I won't let it go/I am falling deeper, losing my control/Involved in a feeling/Like the blink of an eye./And the silence it belongs to you and I.”)

His love tore through her walls and became transcedecent, reaching inside her to depths she didn’t know she had.  She can trust him. Opening up is no longer an endless hole that will leave her empty and alone. She knows he will be there with her, holding her and carrying her along, if needed. (“Broke through barriers/And passed a state of mind/I'm not scared no more/It feels divine/So take me in/And catch me when I fall/I'm waiting on the edge/Uncut my soul.”)

In the pre-chorus, he has a part of her that she hands over to him without any coercing. (“Snip by snip/I'm losing it/Bit by bit/I'm taking it/Step by step/Boy here and now.”)

               The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, he does not know the extent of her feelings for him yet. He is all she thinks of and he consumes her with every time gaze. Within her heart, she is in uncharted territory. She has become a new person. (“Secretly I let it slip/Emotional I fall through it/All I know I'm losing my control/I'm down your way too far/And there's no turning back/And now I'm shedding all my fears/I know, I know.”)

The chorus is sung again to end the single.

The Sugababes’ lustrous vocals lift up the meager material but can’t keep it from dropping it. They give the lyrics breaths of life, inducing CPR, but not enough to sustain it.

The  sluggish  “Caught In A Moment” lays there and waits for someone to do the rest of the work.
