Default program issue

Hey, I have Start8 and ModernMix installed. Unfortunately, I am unable to define default programs. The particular issue is due to having installed LibreOffice a while back, and then installing Microsoft Office a week ago. If I try to open a .doc file, it goes nowhere. If I go into default programs, Microsoft office does not appear. If I try and right click and 'choose default program', nothing happens. If I right click and open with, I can select Microsoft word and the file does open. I really don't want to have to right click and open with every single Office file whenever I use this laptop. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chopper

This doesn't seem to be a problem that either should be causing.

I just checked here on a Windows 8.1 machine and if I right click a file, go to open with and pick choose default program the dialog popups up as normal.

Thanks for the prompt reply Neil. I wasn't sure if it was a 'Stardock' issue, or an issue with windows/my install itself. I'll disable both start 8 and modernmix and try and troubleshoot. Cheers, Chopper.
