Why thank you Elana, it's a gorgeous weekend. 

I wonder if, in some random day in late December, you get wished a 'merry Christmas', do you correct them stating it's not Christmas,but thank's anyways?

While Christmas is celebrated on a certain day, it's customary to extend wishes to people you won't necessarily be seeing on that day...as you well know.

Christmas? You mean the celebration of endless retail shopping from just before Thanksgiving until "Package Day?"  :)   Yes, was a wonderful weekend, and today (July1 - actual Canada Day) is wonderful. I'm on the south shore of Lake Ontario - wonderful breeze.  And you on the north shore?  Enjoy!

Hi MyFist - been a while.  Actually, here in Upstate NY, Christmas is treated as a 'season.'  I get merry christmas-ed from the first week of December on through New Years day.  I typically respond with "Happy Holidays."  This was safe until about three years ago.  Now, many times, when i respond, politely, and with genuine wish of happiness, I often get a nasty "It Christmas- stop attacking my faith; (or similar words.)  This year I will respond with "happy Solstice," - or just pretend I didn't hear them.  *triple face palm*

Yes, politics and religion run amok. IMHO, simple greetings should never be used to promote political or religious ideologies. I myself am not religious but have no problem with people wishing me a merry Christmas, or happy Hanukkah, or whatever they wish if done politely. If people get updet with someone using happy holidays, that's their problem and intolerance.

BTW, I am not far from the north shore of Lake Ontario, we often drive to Pelee Point for some of the best bird watching in north america.

A lush Carolinian forest oasis at the southern tip of Canada, Point Pelee National Park resounds with migrating song birds in the spring, hums with cicadas in the summer, flutters with Monarch butterflies in the fall and is a peaceful place of reflection in the winter.

BTW (off topic) Iroquois National Wildlife refuge a bit south of lake Ontario is a stop over for dozens of species of migrating birds.  Late Sept/early Oct typically finds 30,000 - 40,000 CANADIAN geese over-night-ing here.  I have viewed their taking off en mass - what a sight - awesome.

Best memories of Canada nature are from my Graduate School years - we went kayaking deep into Algonquin Provincial Park.  Water so clean you could safely drink in un-treated. What memories.  "Oh, Canada..."   Note to bucket list:  add Pelee Point, and don't forget binoculars.

I hope that all our Canadian friends had a wonderful Canada Day on the 1st, those of us in the U.S.A. are getting ready for our Independence Day Celebrations on the 4th.  We will try our best not to keep you up with too much fireworks and load music............I did say try.
