Galactic Civilizations III - Alpha Patch 0.30

*** Released 06/24/2014 ***

Old save files will not be compatible with the ship designer. You will have to start a new game in order to use the Ship Designer.

Features

Implemented Starports (which are likely to be renamed). Ships are no longer built on planets, but from Starports in space. You must determine how much of your production a planet spends on its infrastructure, and how much it contributes to Starports it supports. Starports can be unanchored and moved across the map, but they cannot produce ships while moving and they suffer a production penalty the farther away they get from the planet that sponsors them. Be sure to protect your Starports; they are ripe targets for attack.

Starbases can now mine resources.

Added Durantium and Elerium as resources.

Enabled Medium and Large maps in Galaxy Settings.

Enabled Spiral, Globular, Clustered and Scattered Galaxy Types in Galaxy Settings.

Enabled settings for Star Frequency, Planet Frequency, Habitable Planet Frequency, Asteroid Frequency, Nebulae Frequency, Resource Frequency and Anomaly Frequency.

Starting Military AI is in, the AI will fleet up and begin to hunt you down.

New Hard point system for making it easier to build ships.

New Planet Generation System.

New system for automatically generating ships (so you have more designs available based on the techs you have access to).

Fixes

Memory usage dropped significantly.

Fixed an issue with the Idealogy Screen no unlocking points properly.

Fixed an issue with symmetry in the ship Designer.

Fixed crashes.

Fixed numerous little issues.

Fixed lots of little multiplayer issues.

Significant performance improvements.

Balance

Anomolly exploration results rebalanced.

(pretty much everything rebalanced)

New Ship Yard Screen.

Enabled the full Tech Tree Screen.

Added Resources tab on the main screen.

Updated the Government Screen to include the Manufacturing Slider.

Updated Strategic Icons and implemented the new Nebula and dust cloud icons.

Starting Military AI is in, the AI will fleet up and begin to hunt you down.

Does this mean that the AI will only attack roaming fleets or will they invade planets as well?

Can`t wait!! :D

Thanks for the info, Derek! Though there is a part of me that is screaming how cruel of you to give us this info without the patch!!! ;) Looking forward to checking it out.

WoW, just wow..

Thanks!

I remember seeing that Planetary Invasion was going further up the tech tree and actually would not be available this incarnation of Alpha, leaving us to just do space battles only and no conquering. This is likely incorrect on my part but I was just wanting to clarify my information.

I forgot to ask. Can we mine asteroids now or is it part of the resource harvesting (All resources are harvested by starbases?)

@Parrottmath: Yes the AI does invade planets, I'm sure that work could be improved, but it does have support for it.*

@Larsenex: Planetary Invasion did move to the 2nd age. But you dont need as many techs to unlock the 2nd age, and the 2nd age is unlocked in Alpha 3.

* AI is an onion. I'm sure Brad could write books on the subject but it's interesting for me to watch the process as an outsider.  For GC3 we have a developer who is writing the starting AI and being mentored by Brad. It's kind of cool to listen to them talk about threat map overlays, fleeting strategies and very base low level AI functions. When the real finesse is needed Brad will come in and spend time tightening down all of the interactions. At this stage of the project, with things changing and us wanting to stay flexible, it doesn't make any sense to do really deep AI work. So instead we build general systems, watch the AI use them and then adjust.

It isn't about programming the AI to do a specific thing in a specific situation. It's about giving the AI a general view of the game and getting it to make decisions based on that.  It's cool stuff, I wish I understood it better.

Thanks. I'm fascinated with AI myself, especially the mathematics that goes behind it all.

How about these sexy asteroids... will that raise the rating of the game from G... to M (as in 'Mmmmm that's a good looking asteroid')

It's not an asteroid belt anymore, it's an asteroid thong.  Uranus has never looked so good.

Ya, give us patch! need now... so weak... must hold on... any moment now...

Very much looking forward to giving this a go. Think the game is going to become a lot more 'fun' to actually play with a slightly more robust AI (or at lest one that does something) and the galaxy options.

Many thanks to all the dev team  ^_^

Salivating Sensations !

A week in objective time is a long purgatory of subjective waiting.  :'( :time: 4*
