Music Review: Pitbull & G.R.L. "Wild Wild Love"

Pitbull & G.R.L.

Wild Wild Love

Album: N/A

Year: 2014

Pitbull sleeps with as many as he can in the opportunistic “Wild Wild Love.”

Part of the chorus opens the single along with an earnest piano. G.R.L. G.R.L. fawns over Pitbull. She worked up the courage to talk to him at after party and he asked her for her number. They’ve hooked up every so often since then. He tells her it’s their secret and it’s what she loves about it. She knows there are other women are out there. But it’s a love most of the general public wouldn’t understand. (“All this wild wild love of us/It can't be tamed, no/All this wild wild love of us/It can't be tamed, no/For better or worse/A blessing or a curse/Long live this wild wild love of us/Long live this wild wild love.”)  synths follow, setting a naïve tone.

It leads to scuzzy synths, rife with questionable intentions. Pitbull announces he’s the latest hot bachelor in Hollywood. G.R.L. shuns the idea at the first. But he sees a woman, he hits on her and then sleeps with her. He’s an animal and has to have sex as much as possible. However, it means so many women want him that he has to turn some of them away. (“Ladies and gentleman/You're looking at the new playboy/Who you?/That's right, Armando Christian Perez/And when it comes to that pretty little bitty kitty/Don’t stop, get it get it, baby, let me pet it/I got that wild love/Love to get wild dirty freaky nasty, yeah I said it/I'll make you lose your heart and your mind at the same time/Don't believe me, bet it/I'm obsessed with that wild love for sure/Even though it's a catch 22/It's a gift and curse for sure/But baby you know that you love it, too, that’s why.”)

In the pre-chorus, he approaches a woman, slings his arm around her and tells her that she wants to sleep with him. Sleeping with him would be better than a lottery ticket. She would be an idiot to walk away from this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  (“You need it, you want it/All over your body/This loving I'm giving/It's worth more than money/You need it, you want it/All over your body/I know that you want this/Wild, wild, love.”)

G.R.L. sings the full chorus. (“All this wild wild love of us/It can't be tamed, no/All this wild wild love of us/It can't be tamed, no/For better or worse/A blessing or a curse

Long live this wild wild love of us/For better or worse/A blessing or a curse/Long live this wild wild love of us.”)

He says he wants to be widely known womanizer just like Mick Jagger. Every woman in every country appeals to him. Although he has a soft spot for women in his hometown of Miami, Florida. He prefers his women to be his fans. He begins spotting them at meet and greets. Then, he lets his assistant which women he would like to give special passes, too. Tonight, after the show, he’s picked out five women. He’s not sure how it’s going to work. But when there’s a will, there’s a way. (“Not only am I trying to be player president/The globe is my backyard, baby seven ten/When it comes to Miami, I always represent/Read all about it, ladies and gents/I'm the chico for the game/I like my women yang/I like my women yang/I like my women fan/And I like them off the chain/

Take 'em all the world cup, Brazil for the bang/You know I'll meet 'em, greet 'em, read 'em/Treat 'em, always keep them feeling right/I don't know if I can handle all five/But baby we can try tonight, dale.”)

Pitbull sings the pre-chorus, with G.R.L. joining in for the last couple lyrics.

G.R.L. sings an edited chorus twice. (“All this wild wild love of us

It can't be tamed, no/All this wild wild love of us/It can't be tamed, no/For better or worse/A blessing or a curse/Long live this wild wild love of us.”)

At the end, Pitbull says his nickname and gives G.R.L. credit. G.R.L. affirms her belief in their love.  (“Mr worldwide/GRL/What better than five beautiful women (haha)/Long live this wild wild love of us.”)

Pitbull’s groggy rap can barely say the words without keeping his eyes open. It’s the one millionth song he’s recorded this year with the same subject. He doesn’t even time to read the gossip blogs anymore to think of on-the-nose pop culture references. If there any time for him to use a Mick Jagger reference, the single would be it.

G.R.L.’s starstruck vocals only see the celebrity. Their love is unorthodox and like Pitbull said, the public would get the wrong idea.  She keeps her Instagram private and has a different name for him on her cellphone. She has no intention of selling her story to a tabloid one day. Like Pitbull said, the experience is enough.

The  worthless  “Wild Wild Love” really wants to be a blind item that gets the Internet and entertainment shows talking.
