Turn Down For What

Album: N/A

Year: 2013

Lil’ Jon gets rowdy at the bar in the  unsettled  “Turn Down For What.”

Ascending synths open the single, setting a transportive tone.  In the intro, Lil’ Jon goes up the DJ booth and demands that he turn up the volume.  He snaps his fingers, calling the server over. He points to his groups of his friends and says he wants to buy shots for all of them again. (“Fire up that loud, another round of shots.”)

Security is gathering around Lil’ Jon. He yells “turn down for what”

The chattering beat gabs on, discussing the ruckus going on around Lil’ Jon as he again yells “turn down for what” four times.

The propellor on the beat starts spinning as Lil’ Jon says “fire up that loud, another round of shots.”

As the beat tries to charm, luring Lil’ Jon away from trouble.  However, he yells “turn down for what” four times.

The DJ attempts to get people’s attention on the dancefloor again. He distracts the clubgoers with the ascending beat. However, Lil’ Jon storms the bar, demanding again “fire up that loud, another round of shots” four times.

The DJ takes over, scratching the record back and forth, turning Lil’ Jon shouts into a meme.  During which, Lil’ Jon yells “turn down for what” five times.

Lil’ Jon’s blusterous shouts get obnoxious. He isn’t going to leave without giving everyone a fight. Security can’t him escort him out fast enough.

DJ’s engrossing arrangement creates its own narrative of a chaotic night at the club. The beat shifts and changes, ready for the next act. It doesn’t ever become tedious.

In the lopsided “Turn Down For What” the DJ is the hero of the story, saving the night with his quick fingers.
