I like it when AI civ leaders are chatty.

I don't know if you guys think the same but In a 4X immersion factors can be sparse, especially in custom games with no official story line.

One thing that works pretty well for me is when the AI leaders have a lot of personality. In GalCiv 2 they are quite interesting and I do like when you are interrupted by a Civ leader telling you that you should work together plotting against another Civ, or when they tell you that they just made breakthrough X etc.

I think it would be nice if this concept was expended with more diverse and interesting communications, and more frequent.

I am currently playing a game as Yor and I disabled tech trading. I used to communicate with other civs all the time to trade techs but in this game I have almost no contacts and it feels weirdly empty because of it. ( although this fits the Isolationist Yor theme )

I miss having news of Kona talking me about tasty Torian skin and the dominion of Korx telling me about their skull collection.

Since GalCiv is a rather humorous game It would be somewhat easy to pepper it with various interactions between civs that take place in the diplomacy screen. I am thinking about something in the style of Jagged Alliance.  Some Ai leader commenting on something you have just done in a positive or negative way or maybe hinting you of how their relation with other civs fluctuate.

For exemple suppose relation between Terran and Thalan just got worse, Terran might chime in and complain they cannot stand Body odor of the Thalan or something else silly like that.

It could be used to highling the lore of the GalCiv universe, like Drengin congratulating you after you conquered a Torian planet etc.

In Sword of the Stars the AI civs could be interesting when you were allied with them they could comment on things like your ability to play and they would tell you which planet they needed help defend of wanted to capture.  You could also open the diplo screen simply to insult them, which I think served no purpose beside worsening your relations but I liked it very much.

That sounds great. I think your asking for something to happen in sandbox constantly to keep you busy, and it should, especially in dialogue. Maybe if the AIs could naturally grow new storys from sandbox mode based off in game events, and other Ai activities.

I have always wanted some special communication to allies as well. Like telling the AI you will declare war on a civ in ten or so turns, and they could do the same instead of being caught off guard. Or special requests, friendly AIs asking you to make trade deals they couldn't or colonize a planet and vice versa.

Karma for a good creative post EvilMaxWar. :)

Thanks for the Karma, Have you ever played Jagged Alliance II DARCA? Or even Jagged Alliance ?

If you have then you certainly know how awesome NPC interactions are in this game.  If you have not, then I highly recommend it. It is the pinacle of creative NPC interaction in a TBS game. I have played it over and over and I do not think I exhausted all interaction possibilities. It is just insane all the fluff dialogue they added to this game.

It  mostly boils to If you do action X with character Y in the presence of character Z then a funny dialog appears and the specific character interactions are many like if you meet situation X and character Y is with you than a special event can appear. The game is crammed with such stuff.

Something along those line could be done in a 4x like if you are allied with Civ X and both at war against Civ Y, then Civ X leader might have a few dialogues specific to this scenario etc.  It takes a bit of time to implement but if If I was a dev I would find that sort of stuff fun to do. It would not require Voice over in a game like GalCiv, its the sort of thing that could be implemented in the evening with a few margaritas :p

Jagged Alliance had Voice over for EVERYTHING!!!

I like this idea. I was intrigued by medieval total war where there was a lot of political intrigue between leaders.

I agree totally. Lots of chit chat with leaders.  Its part of the political posturing leaders do.  "Oh, you are the new ambassador from Earth?  Walk with me.  I desire a stroll in my gardens.  I always take new visitors to my palace to the gardens.  Did you know I have an amazing collection of human femur bones adorned with wonderful intricate carvings.  Most are by our famous poet, a national treasure.  What say you?  Oh, they are the poet's more famous musings about friendship."

I now feel ashamed to say I have not. :( I know Mr. Wardell said the AI will be more vocal about its decisions, maybe its war strategy is apart of that along with new creative dialogue. This will be the gem of the industry once complete and the dlc is beyond my imagination! So I wouldn't be surprised if people start saying "MOO who?" afterwards. Lol

thks Ronin!

Well, don`t feel ashamed. The game is a bit old but if you can get over the 15 years old 2D graphics ( it looks good on an old display)  and make it run fine on a modern computer then by all mean try it.  This game has officially achieved legendary status and is a gem of a TBS game.  While the first JA was nice at the time, the second game is the real masterpiece. Some have tried to immitate it but they all failed miserably. There is still no modern substitute to JA2.

Beware what you wish for, she might dance for you.  But can you afford her price?  (a gift of your bones to her sweet daddy's collection)  :)

If I was interested in his daughter... She could take whatever part of me she wanted if I could have a drengin Dreadnought or rule a planet that was conquered, I would be her boy toy :). And we both love steamed Torian. And I have heard that Arcean chin is growing in popularity along with iridium eyes and human nails. (I am officially crazy now lol)

That reminds me of the story of the Drengin princess and the Torian slave. Wonder how that one ended up.

You never played Jagged Alliance 2, did you? He is the primary punching-bag henchman of the villain, Deidranna.
