Colony view

How about adding a colony view option(street view?), where players can see individual planets cities in there empire from ground level. The colony views would differ depending on the planets enviroment, the race architecture, as well as the colony specialication(industrial, agricultural, academic and happiness). It could even show little humans, yor or other aliens walking the streets.

This view option could serve to give players visual example of how life could be on the planets, getting players to bond better with there individual colonies.

That would be pretty neat.

They would need to make multiple scenes for each civilization though.

That is the kind of detail that seems very secondary to me, especially since it would be very resource intensive for the company to develop such a vast "planet surface rendering system"

I much prefer Stardock to use their time and ressources to make a Solid Strategy game experience and polish the UI and Gameplay and other Essential elements of the game.

Yes indeed.

Even a static "background picture" reflecting the general type of planetary environment, perhaps hinting at the local architecture, some ambient sounds, with a touch of "superfluous statistics", and/or quotes from the citizens, musing over the current situation ( as has been done before), would do absolute wonders for that ability to "dive in".

If a "live scene" is too daunting I mean.

I have to agree that such a feature, while cool, is pretty impractical to implement, especially in the initial release.

However, I would actually like to see growth and development represented in a visual way on planets.
Perhaps having the landmass in the planetary improvement screen have small "city" textures appear and grow across it as the pop rises. Additionally, having the planet display lights on its surface, and little orbiting objects and ships buzzing between them (Like sins of a solar empire) when zoomed in on the galaxy map view would be an easy and cool way to show how populus or developed a planet is, without being particuarly resource intensive (developmental and hardware wise).

Little things like this help games feel alive and like more is happening than just your user input and just adds that extra layer of immersion that this is a growing, bustling empire you are building.

I agree that I would rather a better game than this, but if it weren't going to slow things down this would be nice. This does sound something Tyranasaur would do in his free time. This could also be in the forums instead, so anyone could do this and post it. The different cities for different factions, so I would like to see people posts this. This could be the site they use.

Zarkov got the right idea with the still "background picture", the scene wouldn't need to be "motion HD 3D".

That way it wouldn't really slow down the game at all, only giving it a little "makeup" on planetary scale :P

Probably wouldn't be hard to program either.

^True, seems like a more realistic idea.
