Music Review: Martin Garrix "Animals"

Martin Garrix

Animals

Album: N/A

Year: 2013

Garrix tries to create a meme in the terse  “Animal.”

A cascading synth opens the single and gradually speeds up, setting a distressed tone.

The beat ticks, slowing down but the pounding gets louder and louder. It becomes agitated, full of bluster. Then Garrix proclaims people are wild, capable of anything..  (“We’re the fuckin’ animals.”)

The cascading synth rotates and is interrupted by the calm simplicity for a moment. However, it’s quickly over as the cascading synth rotates again.

The beat grows more powerful again and Garrix repeats his meme. (‘we’re the fuckin’ animals.”)

The cascading synth rotates and is interrupted by the simplistic beat again.

A well-timed scream ends the single.

Garrix’ fuzzy vocals, made to be disguised into a sinister voice, taunts listeners as he lives out his psycho fantasy. Adding to his warped mindset is the impending violence he promises and clearly enjoys. It’s freaking weird.

His catatonic arrangement revels in the excitement and then tries to incite fear. It’s not sure if it’s wants to be a psychological thriller or an ode to hedonism.

The unbalanced “Animals” should be tranquilized on the spot.
