Will ModernMix Become Redundant With The Release Of Windows 8.1 Update 1?

I have been reading about and looking at screenshots of Windows 8.1 Update 1, and Microsoft have brought back the windows buttons to the apps and are now in windowed mode.

Where does that leave ModernMix? <_<

Umm unless something has changed that update WILL NOT allow metro applications to run in windows.

It simply has an option to show them as taskbar buttons and you can close them from a bar at the top.

Hi Neil.

The problem since updating to Windows 8.1 Update is that I now have a "Minimize" and "Close" button in two places in Modern Apps.

If you hold your mouse at the top of the screen, the Windows "Minimize" and "Close" button drop down over the ModernMix buttons.

I think I will have to remove ModernMix on my computers.

There is an upcoming update for ModernMix which should deal with those issues.

We would always recommend holding off on installing updates to the OS until they hit Windows Update officially as the release on MSDN is for developers like us to finish our testing with.

Yeah but with another update later this year there will be windowed modern apps. If you can wait a bit there is no reason to buy modernmix at this point. Stardock should add new features or make it free. Native support will most likely be less jank then modernmix current implementation anyways.

It was good while it lasted.

I guess you would have always suspected that the time may come when ModernMix and Start8 may become redundant.

Right now, I have no need for ModernMix and have uninstalled it, and I suspect in the near future that I will have no need for Start8.

That's not to say that I don't appreciate your great work.

You guys make fabulous quality software, but there was always a possibility of this happening.

Keep up the great work, guys!

In terms of start8 if they keep updating it I will keep using it. From what I saw in the video of the new start menu I don't really need/want and live tiles in the start menu. I hope stardock at least maintain compatibility with future windows updates..

We will have to see what they produce and more importantly when they produce it.  Right now there is very little information on that.

I will say there is no reason for us to ever release ModernMix for free.  If you want modern apps in a window right now vs some undefined future date which may or may not come with some other restrictions then ModernMix has at least $5 worth of value to someone.
