War of Magic, should it be brought back?

War of Magic, should it be brought back?

Greetings!

For those of you not familiar with our Elemental game universe here it is in brief:

Elemental is a fantasy world made up of many different civilizations vying for control the world. There is a great deal of history and lore to tap into and we decided to begin making games in this world back with 2010s release of War of Magic.  Unfortunately, when it came out, it was pretty buggy and got some negative reviews. We fixed the bugs but the game itself was still pretty meh.

So in 2012, we released the second game in the Elemental universe called Fallen Enchantress which was good and we're pretty proud of that game.  We followed it up with an expansion pack called Legendary Heroes that further refined the Fallen Enchantress game mechanics.

We do intend to follow Fallen Enchantress with a third strategy game in the Elemental universe but it'll be very different from either War of Magic or Fallen Enchantress as it focuses largely on, well I can't really go into that yet.

When Fallen Enchantress was released, we discontinued War of Magic. I don't think it's available for sale anywhere anymore.  My question is, would anyone be interested in us revisiting War of Magic in the future to release a kind of "War of Magic: Director's Cut" or something where we refined the WOM game design, updated the visuals.

WOM had some interesting game mechanics such as a pretty big emphasis on a dynasty system and a number of other distinctive mechanics that could be refined further.

Let us know what you think. Would we be opening up "old wounds" or would be restoring faith to those who believed in the original "not-MOM" concept?

I know this is an old post but I think about War of Magic all the time.  It is the only game that is an RPG with a Total War like dynastic system. (Wildermyth doesn't count cause you have no control over what you children look like/ what class they are/ what color they are I had a black kid from 2 white parents....)

At least sell it again via digital or on gog..

Agreed. As a minimum stick it on GoG, or as a maximum go ahead with the whole engine upgrade and release the WoM ultimate edition idea posted earlier.

I also still think it would be really good if after the above you guys then re-unified the series under one name (eg Elemental franchise) as then you can advertise all the games (WoM, FE, LH, SK) as a package on steam/gog and people who own one of the games can try out one of the others in the series that they may not have known about or had access too. You've already pretty much done this on the Elemental website so you may as well on the storefronts too.

Steam franchise package examples:

Age of Wonders series

Eador series

I played it when it came out and dealt with all it bugs and fiddlie bits.  I loved it then and have kept playing it since.  Cleaning up the bugs and making it compatible with newer PCs would garantee that I would be buying it.

What we want to do is this:

Take the original design for Elemental (not War of magic but what we designed) and make THAT game or at least remaster War of Magic + Fallen Enchantress + Sorcerer King to get close to it with our assets we have.

The original economic / city building system from the Elemental design + War of Magic depth + Fallen Enchantress strategy + Sorcerer King crafting / RPG elements.

And so it begins!

I would.  I think it would be cool to go back to WoM and fix some of the issues around features that are no longer in the new games.  Like Dynasties.  Focus and fix what makes that game different than the new ones.  I think you could re-release it and make money on it.  Guess it depends on how much resources you want to put into it.

This guy sounds smart, keep listening to him.
