"Semi" branching Campaign

Will Galciv 3 have a semi branching campaign in which your choices effect certain outcomes or the ending itself? Now I am not talking about one of those campaigns that has many different endings, but more along the lines have three endings, best ending, medium ending, and "worst" ending. Worst is a relative term I am using solely as a place holder.

Personally I like the idea of the player having a limited impact on the ending. For example in the campaign liberating the worlds of the other races and returning and rebuilding them, will have an overal positive progress towards the campagn and in the ending helping cement the alliance between the Terrans and other alien species that suffered at the hands of the Drengin. Not to mention possible allied support in future missions. Another faqctor that would be taken into account here would also be the refraining of using of planet destorying weapons on a frequent basis and the "good" treatment of captured dregin worlds (assuming such a feature is added)

On the other hand simply ignoring the other aliens and going on a xenophobic rampage will lead to a slightly darker ending, with possible tensions between the terrans and the other alien races, and maybe even alliances falling apart.

So what does the community think on player actions during the campaign having a limited effect on the over all campaign and the ending in general?

Again I am not talking about having numerous endings in which the smallest choice changes it, this game is not suited for that and it would be a pain for SD to impliment.

The problem with different endings is that for the sequel or expansion they will have to choose one ending to be canon, which will make the choices ultimately pointless.

I preferred how it was in GC2, having alternate missions if you failed one.

I think GC is definitely suited to have minor changes in each scenario based on your previous actions; completion of secondary objectives could give bonuses/ships/extra tech/etc in subsequent missions, and certain opportunities could be available only with a given ethical alignment.  I have mixed feelings about actually having different endings; I'd rather have one really good one, with perhaps 10% of the ending cut-scenes dependent on your choices in some way.

There won't be ethical alignments in GalCiv 3. They've been replaced with Ideologies.

Agreed. Plus, the GalCiv story has already been written. It wouldn't make much sense to have multiple endings in this case.

Its my fault for not being specific, what I had meant for branching would have been similar to the Dawn of War:II Warhammer 40K ending in the game. The endings, good or bad are very similar to each other to the point where either one can be offical canon. However I certainly see where the above posts are coming from.

"Good ending"

"Bad Ending"
